I knew I was in love with this book after the first paragraph. I can't remember the last time I was so completely drawn into a story. I read it in one sitting. I can't remember the last time I did that. Do yourself a favor and check it out. It's a novella, so even short attention span readers will love it!
A spectacular look at the parts of ourselves that we call evil and wicked, but when light is shown on them are not so dark and not so abnormal. In fact, they are pretty common to everyone.
The only warning I will give, is that this entire book is written in short chapters and is in stream of consciousness. In fact, there were many times that a page starts with one character's story and by the end of the page you've been through two and three perspectives. Jarring at first, but well worth getting used to. What a story! I was riveted.
Highly recommend!
If you are not a fan of stream of consciousness or jumping around in a story, don't read it. Otherwise, it was beautiful. A gem. So different than the movie, you'll ask yourself what the hell the studio was thinking!
I devoured this book, I just forgot to update my reading status. A good friend recommended it to me and I loved it! I won't tell you anything except that it is full mystery and magic! It made me feel like an innocent child again while I read.
There was no part of this book that didn't have me completely enthralled and hanging on every syllable.
Highly recommend.
Interesting premise, I liked this one a lot. Not a huge fan of prince, but that scene was hilarious.
I only read this because Christopher Moore gave it 5 stars.
It was so boring it took me months to finally finish. I could only read for so long before I had to read something else I enjoyed. But I had hope it would get better, because the first chapter was so interesting. But that was the best chapter. I did not like it at all.
I was sitting at the reception desk (the “donut”) at ART completely enthralled in Pride and Prejudice when David Mamet walks by talking with several Harvard students. He saw me reading and came back and asked me what I was reading. I was speechless and showed him the cover. He was kind of my idol at the time. He saw the title and said, “Aww! Dude! Good book!” And went on his merry way. Since that time, I have found no reason to add to David Mamet's review.
This book is so good, you will not believe how much you'll love it. Everyone knows an Ove. And come the end of the novel, you will call him family.
