The immortal in the title is “Adam,” who is about 60,000 years old and doesn't remember large stretches of his life, including his first few thousand years. He has good recall of the last five thousand or so, which he draws upon to stay one step ahead of everyone else.

In this book, Adam is still looking for “Eve,” who is even older than Adam and seems to hold a grudge against him. Eve seems to have this ability to just vanish when Adam gets close and Adam decides to take up again a quest for a geolabe that he had abandoned circa 800 AD.

We get a lot of character development in this one, including the answers to why Eve holds a grudge and where she goes when she “disappears.” Along the way, Adam makes new friends and deals with a new threat to his existence. Humor and action are sprinkled throughout.

I really am enjoying Gene Doucette's “Immortal” series. The stories are light, engaging and move right along. I find the the mysteries presented or implied sufficiently compelling to keep me turning the page. In terms of escapism, you can't go wrong with these books so far.
