It's surprising what people were able to get away with writing in the mid-1800s. I'd equate it with the desktop publishing era of the 1990s. In spite of this, Loudon writes several chapters on domestic pets, each about a different animals. The squirrel anecdotes in Chapter 3 are entertaining.
