I didn't find this story as engaging as the first Lock-in book but I'm not a sports enthusiast so that may have colored my opinion a little.

I give some credit to Scalzi for writing women characters and a lead who was not only a woman but also a lady of color. Of course, her world interaction is through the threeps and the virtual world so I was a little disappointed that there was a little effort made to address this. Her partner though was a little flat, character-wise and she had potential to be much more interesting as a human and a former interface for people who were locked-in.

There's a lot to be said for tackling this sort of story. And it was interesting. I listened to the audiobook and some of the reading was a bit choppy. The editing was a bit obvious and some of Amber Benson's voices were a bit odd.
