really enjoyed this, the moodiness and the way sager sets you in scenes really has you questioning what's going on, and i super loved that, it reminded me a lot of lock every door in that way. the book-within-a-book thing was a lot of fun and never felt off pace, and i genuinely was questioning what was ~true~ up until the end. i think my real criticisms were in the execution of the weird romance subplot, and the plothole of the parents motivations, which when revealed, seemed flimsy at best. but i definitely enjoyed this take on a ‘haunting of hill house' type story, and it really was a lot of fun.
