The Winter Box

A quick and satisfying read. Much like Mr Waggoner's other short story, Deep is the River, it's not quite clear what exactly has happened until the very end.

On their anniversary, an insecure and flawed couple try to remain warm in their home during a blizzard. While they struggle to accept that their marriage is failing, they are haunted by the memories of their love.

This is an interesting concept that might be better suited to a longer format. The novelette length of this story, and if I'm being honest the mediocre prose, didn't really get me invested in the characters or their experiences. There were some cool moments, but sadly they felt like punctuation in a stream of boredom. This short book just didn't really resonate with me.
