I actually only got about 70% done. What a terrible read. I don't know anything about the game, but as a novel it was terrible. The story spent a ton of time on stuff that at least 70% in didn't seem to progress the plot. Batman seems to cross town in a blink, somehow he lost and needed a new batmobile, i don't recall reading how he lost the first but oh well.
Over all not a great book. Maybe if I had the game as background it'd make more sense?
As excited as i was by this book (Kickstarted it) it's just not that awesome. I've set it aside in my “Abandoned books” category on my Kindle.
The aspects that are the author's story, are pretty inspiring, but the rest is super basic “how to be a maker 101”. If you live in or around San Francisco it might be more valuable as all the places he talks about are there, so you could stop in, explore etc on your own. Beyond that it just kinda droned on repeating the same thing over and over with slight twists and anecdotes.
I'm not into video games, and have never played Halo, but the universe is very interesting to me, and the books are pretty well written for game spin offs.
So I watched Citizen Four a while back, and think it helped in reading this. Though not nec. it certainly helped me remember parts of the documentary, as well as vicualize parts of the story as they unfolded.
That said, wow, good book. Scary, and pretty depressing, but good, and everyone should read it.
It's startling to see just how far our government (including the President i voted for and mostly love) has gone to erasing our privacy. How far in the pocket our journalists are, and how much we've willingly or otherwise given up in the name of (false) security.
Greenwald does an excellent job pointing out the lies (outright and by omission) our government and media have spread to convince us that we're somehow safer having either given up or (more often than not) had taken away our rights.
it's eye opening to see how bad it's gotten, and how completely untrustworthy our media is with regard to our government.
I wasn't sure I'd like it. I bought it, but had reservations. Mostly because I'm growing bored of the zombie thing, but when I saw it was zombies and mechs, I was curious.
Curiosity rewarded! Great book, well worth the read, might even fall into the read again later category, it was that engaging.
Even if you're (Like me) kinda over zombies, go get this awesome book.
Not Bad, definitely more to the world in the book I'd like to read about. Hope this isn't the only book in this world
Surprisingly good. I haven't read many star trek books since my high school days (Yeah I was that guy), but this one is good. Quite a few funny trek culture references.
The death of Janeway surprised me. I thought they'd save her at the last minute, but nope, she's gone, unless of course she's now Q. GOD I HOPE NOT
I couldn't get past the language, if that makes sense. I'm sure the story is good, so this review is really just for future me. The writing was heavy on the (I assume) Scottish slang and such, I couldn't keep up with what was happening barely 2 chapters in.
I don't mind slang especially localized slang, but I don't need to fall into the deep end of it, where I can't tell who's who, and what's what.
Another great entry in a series I've really enjoyed! Good dialogue can be tough, and Joshua nails all the unique personalities of the team quite well!
I'm torn, this series within the greater series around the birth of the Federation and Starfleet is... meh. It's interesting to a degree but the stories aren't super compelling and the 2-3 separate plots don't add much to the whole. It's like they're still trying to figure out what to do with Trip Tucker..
I'm never a fan of stories with more narration than dialogue. That's my only issue with this story, but not at all keeping me from reading the next one.
Realized WAY back ... ok before goodreads, I read this. A friend wrote it and it's good.
Reads a bit like a technical paper, with characters. In a good way. I enjoyed SpaceCorp a lot. It is dry reading for sure, as it's heavy on science and light on character development. Book two is already on my Kindle to be read.
I felt like this book was less edited than the previous. If you're one of those folks who can't get passed a missed word or a typo, you might want to wait and see if there's a new release. It's not over the top, the errors, but I know some folks just can't handle a single mistake (Their loss).
That said, a great third entry in this neat series re-telling the tale of Peter, Wendy and the Lost Boys.
Can't wait for the next.
Some very cool ideas explored in this. I enjoyed it a lot. The characters were pretty well fleshed out and none felt overly cardboard-y which is always nice.
Great first book! I immediately grabbed the second and can't wait to see what's next for Arsenal and the Diamonbacks.
What a cool idea! Loved the concept of the story and the characters! Can't wait to dive into book 2!
Fun space romp with a crew I definitely fell in love with. Looking forward to more adventures.
I really enjoyed this story. Some of the world building kinda drug on, but overall a great story that kept moving forward. I'd definitely be keen to see what happens next in this universe.
