The latest Inspector Lynley book gets to me in the end, like all the others. Good stuff!
This one is even funnier than the first. The scene where Bridget interviews Colin Firth is especially funny when you listen to Terry Gross's Fresh Air interview with him. Terry obviously hasn't read this book!!
There is a lot of cupping of breasts in this book. The characters are ridiculously perfect/evil. But I enjoyed it.
This was a really interesting read. It truly is like revisiting Mad Men characters in book form - from the women's perspective. The ending was rushed and abrupt. I'm not sure what happened there. I think I'd like to try another of Jaffe's books.
Murderbot is the best kind of friend. Knows your weaknesses, impressed by your strengths, always there for you despite the hassle.
Nothing wrong with this, but when I find myself playing more Bejeweled than reading in the evenings, it's time to move on to a new book.
I have a lot of respect for Brunonia Barry for publishing this on her own and making it a huge success, but basically I think this book could have used an editor. The pacing was uneven, the point of view off, and the characters hard to connect with at first. I love crazy endings and think I would have loved this one if I had not been on the lookout for it. I would like to read something else by this author, if she publishes more.
Whoa! I was slightly unimpressed for the first half of this book but then it really gathers steam and grows into itself. So good!
Liked it! Still getting used to the whole “pure romance novel” thing, eg the heroine is only there to be swept off her feet, but I am enjoying this series now. Love the tormented vamp souls & their happy few, their band of brothers.
I did not find this book as riveting as most reviewers, but loved, loved the characters so much, especially the small family at the center. This is my first Erdrich, and I was so pleased to find that the characters are present in her other stories.
I didn't finish this but I don't plan to go back to it. I like charming mysteries just shy of cute, with a tendency toward melodrama. This one was too far into the “cute” zone for me.
I technically did not finish this but definitely got the gist. The author is cute and she wrote one really moving chapter about her early relationship with her husband. I don't really recommend it though, you can get everything she has to say from her Instagram.
The plot was clunkier than the first two novellas but damn, still so good. Love this character and world of bots and AI and hybrids.
This is a very, very good book! Its greatest achievement is its ability to make you feel compassion for those you may not think of that way (Death and Nazis primarily).
FINALLY crossed this off my list. As promised, an absorbing read. Not anything more or less astonishing than other disaster account type literature, though.
This book is cute but much of the story is about social behaviors/interactions that are lost on Charlie. I don't think his interest is at all piqued by Hiccup's sense of inadequacy around his father and his rivals. He fell asleep a few nights while I was reading it, and then for a couple of nights he chose different books. I asked him if he wanted to stop reading it and try something else and he said yeah, so, we are.
Great introduction to a new series! It's set in 1920s Bombay and the descriptions of Bombay cultures and the legal system are fascinating. Plus, lovable characters. It's a delight.
Not for me. I am interested in the Alaska frontier community but can't slog through 400 pages of domestic abuse. This is the second Hannah I've abandoned.
OK, any book that encourages Charlie to snuggle up to me and then talk excitedly about the plot and characters gets high ratings. But it's really cute, especially the illustrations. (My favorite is one that's also on the cover of of the lion, with his mane combed out, braided and tied in bows.) Charlie and I both enjoyed Elmer Elevator's adventures searching for the dragon on Wild Island.
This book is not bad, but not truly remarkable either. It's the same basic Cinderella story-with-a-twist that is good fodder for book clubs. Compare to Memoirs of a Geisha and Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. Completely likable. I did enjoy the character's journey, the complicated nature of her Uncle's love for her, and the historical details about 17th century Persia.
