I read Jane Eyre as part of one of my bookclub podcasts. This one comes from Hot and Bothered, which I also used to read along with Pride and Prejudice last year. Cannot recommend enough bookclub podcasts that involve Vanessa Zoltan - so much fun and such interesting content!!
Anyway, I'm positive I have read Jane Eyre before - probably in high school or maybe even younger?? Before the time of Goodreads, certainly, so I have no frickin' clue. I often file this book near Jane Austen in my head, and while I knew it would be a darker story than Austen tends to write, I guess I forgot how much darker? And the actual prose was a bit more dense as well. I'm not sure what this says about my brain vs my younger brain reading this, but I'm glad I had the podcast to help motivate me as well as to help me think more critically about the themes discussed in the book (I'm sure much of it would have gone over my head without it)!
If you're a fan of gothic/regency romance novels and haven't read this, it is absolutely worth picking up. If that does not tend to be where your reading leads you, this book is maybe not the best entrance. But, 100% recommend on Hot and Bothered as a podcast to help you read along!
