Intermezzo

Intermezzo
BySally Rooney

2024 • 359 Readers • 448 pages 3.8

Why this book?

I'm not finished yet, but I already love the characters so much and am eager to see where Rooney takes them. When I first read the synopsis of this book, I was not excited about it like I had been with Beautiful World, Where Are You? But as Rooney does, I was sucked into her world. I'll read 20 pages, and it'll only feel like I read two. The quotes from music and poetry throughout also tickle me as a reader.

My Year of Rest and Relaxation

2018 • 979 Readers • 306 pages 3.8

Why this book?

I knew I would love this book from the cover even if the cover is the antithesis of the main character. The main character is dealing with grief and addiction throughout. I could see myself in her, her selfishness in her isolation and her nonchalance towards social norms. I found that this novel grotesquely captures what it is like to be in the throes of addiction, grief, and depression. It's not pretty like the cover, it's usually disgusting.
