OBSESSED with the art style and love the ads spaced throughout!! The first story was super fun, the second one I couldn't connect to
Interesting premise but the story was all over the place jumping timelines and characters. It was just confusing
Good at the beginning and I liked Adrian and the living with 3 guys dynamic but I didn't like Ginny, she was a try-hard and annoying. Then the book abruptly shifts in its multiple parts and was not great. also didn't understand the need for a love triangle?????? There was no point in that
Fun horror novella with 3 separate stories and an intertwining one. The first story we are told was about a child's fortune-telling game and was the worst of the three. I didn't really understand where it was going and found myself speeding through. I really liked the second story of women ruling the Earth. It felt sci-fi and I would like to see it in a longer book format. The last story about the man on the head was good, the ending a little surprising. And finally, the intertwining story was not very well constructed. It was a fun, quick read though and I will continue with the series.
I could not vibe with the characters. They felt very one-note and too much explanation on the setting. Weird, but it read almost like a cozy mystery.
So fun but I would have liked to see more behind the scenes secrets or examples of how the original script was modified. Focused mostly on the casting of the film, but I like how minor characters were included too. Some parts just felt a little repetitive
Thanks so much to NetGalley and Putnam Books for an ARC of this in exchange for a review!!!
I did not like this author's previous book, and I don't think I will continue reading from him. His concepts sound so good, but unfortunately the execution just doesn't do it for me. I know I'm in the minority, and it makes me sad. The characters in this book felt very one dimensional and I could not connect with any of them. The plot felt all over the place and certain points were obvious, and others were just out of left field. I liked the LGBTQ+ representation, but some of it felt kind of forced. I liked the idea, setting, and the sprinkled mixed media, but it just didn't work out.
Very fun, loved seeing the other side of the publishing world. It just felt a little slow at times
The weirdest romance I've ever read. The writing style was okay but I just could not deal with the outrageousness of it all
I liked the writing style but nothing was happening, and the whole “conflict” of the text seemed blown way out of proportion. Nothing was at stake. Flipped to the end and my theory was right. What else could it have been?
Was an emotional and raw read seeing RuPaul from such a different light. I would have enjoyed seeing Ru in recent years, but I understand why it wasn't included
Liked the setting and idea behind the book. I also liked hearing the multiple perspectives. The beginning was super strong, following Brandon's death was really tense and exciting, it felt like the book form of the movie Haunt. After he dies, the book felt not as exciting and repetitive. The haunted house descriptions weren't there.I felt no connection to any of the characters, and they all read so similar.
More and more similar reading characters were added and I got less invested. I liked the Voodoo parts, but not enough to keep reading
This was an interesting fast-paced thriller. The story quickly gets started and doesn't let up until the end. The book is narrated by Claire and a mystery anonymous person and the whole book I kept theorizing on who they were. It did surprise me at the end and took a turn from who I thought was the killer! The characters were all unlikeable, but I guess it was the point, it made everyone feel suspect. I also enjoyed the epilogue and the little zinger left at the end.
The big thing I didn't like, but was essential to the plot point, was the cheating trope. I found it annoying, as well as the characters involved.
This was so unlike what I thought and I liked seeing the three siblings come together after a death in the family. The beginning reminded me of How to Sell a Haunted House. I enjoyed reading from the three perspectives and thought everyone was distinct and I liked the flashback chapters from the mom! I also enjoyed the setting and got through this pretty quick. It surprised me that Michael was the cause of all the problems and the dad was actually dead. Thought for sure it would be Lucas
Was so so so excited for this after The Push being one of my all-time favorites. This one was just as masterful in getting inside a mother's head. The women in this book were all dealing with a tragedy of some sort, and some of it was very heavy to read, particularly with infertility. I loved Rebecca and Blair's POVs, Whitney's I found boring but necessary, Mara's felt boring and unnecessary. Her chapters I did not enjoy in the slightest. I also had an issue with the story hopping around. I love different timelines but this one was confusing, jumping around even within chapters. This was very slow, but the last 75 pages pack a punch, and the last line of this book is so chilling, once again.
Did not like the jumpy writing style. It made it so it was impossible to connect/relate to the characters
I liked the beginning and the setting, but I didn't feel connected to either character or a ton of chemistry between them. It was a LOT of reflection on January's past and it got stale. I appreciated incorporating parts of both Gus and January's books, but I hated the concepts of both stories and skimmed through them. But, this was Emily Henry's first romance, and I adored PWMOV and Book Lovers and am so excited for Happy Place. It's great to see each book better than the last.
Loved the family dynamic. This author writes characters so well. They feel so real and with lots of representation and social commentary. I felt like it was a little too slow for my liking, but romances (and especially holiday romances) are super hard to please me.
