Jane Yolen is one of those picture books authors that stands out to me as always having an interest concept and displays it in an almost poetic tone. Apparently it is not news that she also writes chapter books, but I didn't realize that until I got my hands on a review copy of A Plague of Unicorns through the BookLookBloggers program (Zonderkidz). For avid readers this is a long afternoon or weekend read, while younger readers could spend a few days in it. It is magical and challenging for our protagonist and young hero James gets to prove himself and his own maturity. This is a book that both girls and boys will enjoy.
This is a good one to put on your child's reading list for the year they're studying medieval history and the like.
