An enjoyable light read. “Betty” meets Fassenden, the hero, by a creek; he secured an invitation to supper the next night, and goes on to his house party he's bound for. All throughout, he attempts to deny his growing attraction to her, because from her actions and styles he believes she is just out of the schoolroom. Several small twists and a big one involving a boat lead to the situation described by the title.
