Bottom Feeders

Bottom Feeders

2020 • 312 pages

Bottom Feeders is a dark look into one man's mind as he begins a new job at Reclamation, a prison facility. Robert DeVille is the new warden and on his first day he finds a diary of the previous warden Joseph Hughes. It's in this diary that Robert delves into the madness of Joseph's thoughts and the evil held within the prison.

Jenny DeVille is Robert's wife. She has her own worries as she notices that Zack, her 6 year old son, has become increasingly quiet and withdrawn. Ahe believes that her ex-husband Morris is behind the sudden change.

To make matters worse, children have been going missing in Morris' neighborhood and Jenny believes Morris is the cause. She is determined to prove his guilt and protect her son.

What actually happens...is nothing you expect and everything that makes nightmares a reality.

I really enjoyed this read as it was a perfect mix of horror & mystery. The writing is descriptive enough that you get a great feel for the story and have no trouble imagining the horrors while reading.

The only thing that bothered me a bit were the journal entries from Joseph Hughes' diary. They were a bit disruptive (for me) to the flow of the story and I felt myself losing interest through them. This is a great one to add to your Spooktober lists or to your TBR in general if you enjoy a good horror now and again.
