6 Stars. I did not think I would like this one because of the gore but oh my god, Rowan. And the audiobook? Chef's kiss. I recommend this one if you can stomach descriptions of violence.
Me ha decepcionado un poco. No sé si era porque tenía las expectativas muy altas o qué. La historia en sí no está mal, es entretenida y engancha. Pero hasta ahí, no hay nada más que me haya interesado.
Butcher and Blackbird
So we are introduced to Sloane and Rowan... Both serial killers... Both are attracted to each other and it starts a competition between the two. They are given a location once a year and they have to figure out who the serial killer is and kill them. It's dark, it's funny and smutty AF!!!!
The banter was some of the best I have seen in a long time and the idea that Sloane is a serial killer, killing other serial killers is fun. I loved watching their relationship develop into something much more than either of them ever expected.
It's more spice than I normally sign up for but it was well done and it had my temperature rising!!
I was surprised at just how good the writing was....
4.5 stars
This book did not disappoint me! Is a different type of dark romance story, with its fair amount of comedy and a few iuggg moments as they are serial killers after all. Sloane is such a beautiful soul with a psycho side, while Rowan is the sunshine any serial killer should be. I would have loved to see more of their background, like what happened in their past, and the development of the characters. But I hope in the second book we'll get to see more of their past as the main characters of the second book shared their past with them, Lark as Sloane's best friend and Lachlan as Rowan's big bother.
This was so weird but I couldn't put it down. I think I'm scarred for life. I am definitely not a murder/dark romance girlie.
Yikes but cute?
Favorite of 2024!
I loved this so much. The first thing that comes to mind to ask is, what does that say about me? This was an unexpected delight, mixing humor, gore, and spice for an extremely bingeable read. From the very first page, Brynne Weaver's Butcher & Blackbird captivated me, and I ended up devouring it in one sitting.
The story plunges you into a thrilling world where humor and horror coexist seamlessly. The pacing is perfect, keeping you on the edge of your seat while simultaneously making you laugh out loud. It's rare to find a book that balances these elements so well, but Butcher & Blackbird does it effortlessly.
The characters are a significant highlight of this book. The banter between the protagonists is electric, providing a dynamic that is both engaging and entertaining. Their chemistry is palpable, adding an extra layer of enjoyment to the story. I found myself eagerly anticipating their interactions, which were always filled with wit and charm.
The level of spice in this book is just right. It's enough to keep things interesting without overshadowing the plot. The intimate scenes are well-written, adding depth to the characters' relationship and enhancing the overall reading experience.
Brynne Weaver's writing style is crisp and engaging. Her ability to weave humor, gore, and romance into a cohesive narrative is commendable. The dialogue is sharp and witty, the descriptions vivid and immersive. It's no wonder I couldn't put this book down. I have heard the audiobook is amazing, and I already started and finished book two. The narration reportedly adds another layer of enjoyment to the story, bringing the characters to life in a whole new way. I am excited to give it a listen soon.
This weekend's readathon has officially helped me find an author I cannot wait to read more from. I have fallen hook, line, and sinker for the banter and everything else in between in Butcher & Blackbird. If you're looking for a read that is as funny as it is thrilling, with a perfect dash of spice, this book is for you. Stay tuned for more of Brynne Weaver's works—I'm eagerly anticipating what she has in store next. Butcher & Blackbird is a solid 5-star read.
Listen, this audiobook is a work of art and if the rest of series is done by the same narrators I will gladly pick ‘em up simply for that. But that aside, I don't feel strong either way about this book! In zero way is this a bad book and in zero way is it the best book I've ever read with that said lands me at a steady three stars. If you need an amazing audiobook to take a chance on, do it do it. For me, I didn't identify with the characters and found myself not caring about the relationship but who knows, it may be different for you!
WHY IS THIS SO HYPED??? 1 star for Lucy and Joe for narrating this bs. at least someone did a good job
This was fun. Kinda gross (I will never look at orzo pasta or cookies & cream ice cream the same way for a while), but fun.
I absolutely devoured this book!!!
I loved it so much I'm so glad it lived up to the hype.
That audiobook????? I promise you it's EVEN better than just reading it.
I have no idea how I'm going to do back to listening to regular audiobooks again instead of this duet style.

BRYNNE WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?!
Whew-eee baby girl can write a MMC and a book! I absolutely devoured this AND I'm not the one to re-read books, this book is BELOVED I'll re-read it until it falls apart honey! Brynne, I hope you read your reviews because you have a new super fan! I'm absolutely fangirling over here darling and I've already followed all your socials. All of your books have made it to my highly exclusive TBR so you'll be hearing from me soon dear! Onto the book review:
Butcher and Blackbird emerges as an unexpectedly delightful read, masterfully blending humor with a narrative that's both engaging and effortlessly accessible. This book, potentially your next favorite, navigates its story with a lighthearted touch that belies the depth of its characters and plot, making it a standout in its genre.
What sets the book apart, aside from its engaging storytelling and well-crafted humor, are the smut scenes. They are, without exaggeration, some of the best written I've ever encountered. The author skillfully balances explicit detail with genuine emotion, crafting scenes that are not only titillating but also deeply character-driven, adding layers to the narrative rather than serving as mere interludes.
The characters themselves are vividly drawn, with their interactions providing a rich vein of comedy that propels the story forward. Their dynamics are relatable yet intriguing, ensuring that readers are invested in their journeys from the first page to the last. The narrative is paced perfectly, weaving together moments of tension, laughter, and passion with a deftness that is truly admirable. My only complaint is that there isn't more!
In essence, Butcher and Blackbird is a masterclass in how to write a book that is at once fun, funny, and fantastically sexy. It's a rare gem that proves you don't have to sacrifice depth for readability or humor for heat. Whether you're in it for the laughter, the love, or the lust, this book delivers on all fronts. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a story that entertains, arouses, and above all, delights.
We have a Chef and Data Scientist that meet and bond over their shared hobby of vivisection. I found their annual competitions quite exciting. Sloans research intense and competitive attitude that contrasted with her nervous/shy and broken side felt very familiar to me. Rowan's people reading and Alpha nature was a good mix which surprised me at first but now that i ruminate on it seems very fitting. The serial killers after other serial killers was a new spin for me and im ready to continue on with brother Lochland's story.
Ahhhhhjjjjjjhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!! (I listened. The narrators were beyond amazing. I can't get enough.)
Even though the content matter is dark, you know, since the protagonists are serial killers, this book still read like a sweet romcom to me, idk why just the vibes.
Rowan was such a fun character to read about and him giving her absolute ✨princess treatment✨
Also I was not expecting Rowan to be so feisty goddamn
