four and a half stars for characters that aren't simply black and white

- the characters are all complex and not simply done black and white (except maybe the sadistic tyrant ruling the fae and suppressing other races) and it's been a while where i had so many characters that made me feel complicated. disliking their actions but understanding where they come from (especially book 2)
- emelin basically gets shoved in between bad blood that's older than her. everybody needs therapy but nobody is willing to talk about past issues unless they have no other choice and as much as i usually hate miscommunication it's pretty valid
- in another timeline Creon would be a golder retriever boyfriend, as it is he's a ball of drama, trauma and self-hate
- don't think i ever had a ml with a disability and it's beautifully done and emelin is probably developing a hand fetish
