Coburn is a nasty piece of work.

He is a vampire that has been entombed for a few years. When he wakes up he craves blood, of course. Unfortunately, he wakes up in the middle of the Zombie Apocalypse, and it seems that full-blooded human beings are few and far between.

When Coburn runs across a band of survivors, he declares them his “herd” and proceeds to protect them for future feeding.

However, he has a strange attraction to one survivor and a dog which somehow starts to draw him back to his lost humanity.

The story moved along at a nice clip. There were some good plot twists. I'm not sure I totally bought Coburn's transformation, but the back story helped a lot. All in all, it was an entertaining read.
