Elizabeth Dyer became an automatic one-click author for me the moment she introduced me to Parker in Defenseless. She has this incredible way of balancing all the things I love and packaging in nicely in a book. Her heroines are sassy. Her heroes are high on the swoon-meter. There's emotion. There's fight. There's a storyline that will keep you glued to your Kindle screen...or earbuds. The twists are shocking. The Geek meter is high. Her prose is tight and suspenseful. She weaves it all together so seamlessly that the reader gets lost in the world she creates. I was captivated from the first chapter until the last. I pulled an all-nighter because I just couldn't bear to pull myself away from this story and these characters- I needed to know what was going to happen next. I laughed. I sat on the edge of my seat, and yes, I may have also shed a tear or two. I loved how the storyline came together. Little bits from the previous books weaved into it to make it all tie together. It was engaging and definitely keeps the reader guessing and enthralled. If Suspense is your jam...this is definitely a book for you.

If you've read Defenseless and Relentless you know of Will Bennett, now you get to really know him. A man of strength, a man of loyalty and a man of love. He's also broken. I loved that his brokenness wasn't hidden, it wasn't a little footnote. We saw his fight. His struggle. His ability to combat his demons. That really took this book up a notch for me, watching his struggles and how he overcame them. Cooper was an integral part of that. She was just as strong and had demons of her own. They never gave up on one another - of course, they didn't always go about it the right way, but they always had their reasons and the support they gave each other was perfection. It really enables the reader to identify and connect with the characters. Speaking of Cooper, wow, what a character. She has it all. She's smart. She's mega-skilled. She's willing to do what it takes. Her strength is astounding. I loved the loyalty she had to her friend and the lengths she was willing to go in order to save him. I hated that she was suffering, but, I loved that it made her and Will connect on such a deep level too, I don't think anyone could have helped him adjust as much as she did. Their chemistry was palpable. It poured from the page and was sweet and sexy. The banter between the two of them was perfection! I'm a huge banter fan and when it includes geeky references like this? Even better. It's a nice way to lighten the mood, especially with the seriousness of some of the scenes, but it wasn't too much that it took away from the scenes either. The perfect balance.

In this book we're introduced to new characters-that we need more of, not joking, I made a note early on to say that I wanted Pierce's story to find out that he's getting one. Yay!!! We also visit with friends from previous books. Including my guy, Parker, although Will gave him a run for his money. I guess we'll have to make it a trio now😉

This book is a standalone and can be read as such. However, personally, I'd suggest reading the other two books first as it gives you a good feel for the story and the characters. Will is mentioned in the previous books so seeing his full story ARC through others eyes and then his own...it was just all the things. Plus, there is one scene which had me laughing and crying (because I'm an emotional mess) even though I saw it coming...it just had to happen, it was too perfect for Elizabeth to miss that opportunity- but, I'd read Defenseless, if I hadn't I don't think it would have had the same impact. Go forth and read...no! Listen, Aiden Snow is superb.

Definitely a 5 star read. Bring on Breathless. I'm ready!
