I decided to read this book as a dog lover, and wanting to read a heartwarming story about an amazing dog, but was surprised that this book is also about some amazing people too. The story of Gobi is definitely about an amazing little dog that obviously won not only Dion's heart, but millions of other people on her journey to her forever home - but it is also about people and how selfless and loving individual people can be no mater where they are from.
Dion not only includes the story of how he met and fell in love with Gobi, but his own personal journey and the people involved along the way with rescuing Gobi and how it changed his perspective and outlook on life and likely will yours too.
It is easy to see only negative things in the world and in life, but Dion's book reminds us to see the positive, both in circumstances and in people and in places. I was surprised about the positivity infused into the story of Gobi and about China and it's people. It was very uplifting to read a story that didn't shy away from the trials, but overall showed how if we look for it there are really good people out there and opportunities to set aside the cliche prejudices we hold and grow beyond them and see that the negativity is often unfounded.
Highly recommended read to lift your spirits and teach you about perseverance, selfless love and the goodness of people.
