How to Date a Dragon
How to Date a Dragon
Considering how bog standard the beginning and setup is, I actually enjoyed this book a lot more than I thought I would. The guys are cute and sweet together and it's their bantering and obvious care that really makes this as enjoyable as it is.
The issues I had are the sex scenes being (unintentionally, likely) hilarious. I mean we have ridged dragon dick and barbed vampire dick and I am helpless to do anything but laugh. Also, I'll give it a pass here because this is a novella, but the word building is interesting as is, but has left me with more questions than anything.
(For example: Dragons in their dragon form do not have sexual parts. Dragons are born in their dragon forms. ... Does this mean that dragons don't have the parts to have sex, but they do have parts to give birth? Or that the carrying partner is stuck birthing a dragon form in ‘biped' form? It wasn't stated, but the fact that dragons don't hatch from eggs seems heavily implied. How does this work? Is the carrying partner stuck in ‘biped' form the entire time they are pregnant? It was also stated that dragons NEED to shift back to their dragon form periodically. (Not stated is what happens if they don't. Do they ‘forget' to be a dragon? Do they go insane?) How long is gestation in a dragon? These are questions that sprung to my mind from one very short exchange. I am okay not knowing because that isn't what this story is about. (Though inquiring minds want to know.) However, it feels like a rather big case of poor planning. ... Or maybe I'm just weird and no one else fell down this rabbit hole.
Anyway, besides that side tangent, there is a whole lot about ‘the fantasy kitchen sink (dragons, elves, demons, vampires, hellhounds, so far) and how dragons and elves come from a different dimension and dragons haven't been on earth in thousands of years and were vampires even around back then?' And for me, personally, I hope that actual information is given once we move into full length books. Because, to be fair, early indications of what to expect from the romances are not enough to power a whole book.)
