Nameless is the main character of his short novelette. He is nameless because he has amnesia; his memory does not go back more than two years.
He also has a kind of precognition/ESP.
Nameless works for some kind of “do-gooding” organization that uses him as the front man to do good. He doesn't know who is behind the organization but it is a very well run organization. Nameless himself has some mean skills as a man of action.
In this case, he is sent into a Texas county run by a corrupt family, the scion of which is a pedophile serial killer. The sheriff has his eyes on the daughter of the widow of a military hero.
Can you tug the heart-strings any more than that?
Throw in a German Shepherd and a tight, taught plot and you have a well-written, short Dean Koontz page-turner that is well-worth the read.
