Leaving Atlanta

This is my first book by this author. I've had An American Marriage on my shelf for a while now but have yet to pull it off. Leaving Atlanta came up for a buddy read so I finally got to delve into this author's work.

This was definitely a strange read, set in 3 different POVs of children who knew each other from going to the same school, and living in the same neighborhood. Surrounding the children's every day lives are kidnappings and murders. Someone is hunting children.

With each part of the book, we walk through that child's home and school life. It's mostly sad, bleak and some parts downright heartbreaking to read. It's real life though and reminds me of some parts of my childhood in Texas.

I liked the writing. I liked the story, but I'm not sure if I can adequately express how I feel after turning the last page. I was left feeling empty, sad and lacking closure, but maybe that was the point...
