Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza

A short story featuring Earthwitch, set shortly after the events of Inside Straight. It's a story of redemption and finding one's roots (almost literally) as she heads to Mexico to meet her grandmother. There's a fun action scene, but it's mainly about trying to come to terms with the events of the novel... so, yes, it's not really standalone, but it has an emotional punch and strong imagery. One of the better of these ebook short stories - soon, I gather, to be collected in a printed anthology, although how well they'll work strung together, I'm not so sure.
