Captivating and heartbreaking, this story of Mennonite colonies in the part of Russia known as Ukraine, is told with empathy and compassion. The story revolves around young orphaned siblings as they journey to find safety and the story of several Mennonite families caught in the turmoil of WWI and the horror of the Russian revolution that followed. Beautifully written with well-drawn characters, descriptive settings that allow the reader to really see the scene, and the promise of a hopeful future.
