Okay so #2 and #4 are the best so far. I loved this book. I loved Manon's humanity revelation. I loved that we got a little closer with Rowan and Aelin. I loved that Dorian came back. I don't know how I feel about the king being a valg this whole time. It feels like that wasn't the original plan. I cried when Lysandra came back as the thing Aedion fears most. I'm pretty sure she's my favorite character at this point. I still just do not care about Chaol and every time I put this book down, it was during a Chaol scene. He's just such a whiny dick. He doesn't deserve Nesryn. I know they won't end up together because the series couples were spoiled for me before I even started, but still. I have to wait for a couple weeks before I continue the series, but I think I'm going to try to do the tandem read.
3.5★
to my own surprise, i actually enjoyed this! it was fun, albeit a bit confusing at times. i would've liked if the last 10% of the book didn't drag on like it did but im looking forward to the rest of the series nonetheless
In love with this book, this series. Every book gets better and better as the world gets richer and we get introduced to more POVs. I am loving the character arc of The Thirteen.
oh my gosh so many things HAPPENED in this book, just NONSTOP HAPPENINGS I need to lie down
overall very satisfying, a lot of good payoffs for things that had been building up throughout the series. I really like the overall themes of GIVING LADIES AGENCY and paying back favors given.
I am a little exhausted from following all of the various Magical Bloodline Sagas but overall very enjoyable, likely moreso for a reader who, in general, is more into high fantasy king and queen shit than I am.
I forgot how excellent this book is. The pining, the plotting, the different POVs, the ending, the friendship, the “I'll bleed whatever color you tell me too” rizz, are you joking? Five stars. Ate this up. Time to do the tandem read and I can't WAIT
3 stars for the first and 5 for the second...what a ride at the end. It was a little longer then I would I have liked but, but each book keeps getting better and better. I've really come to care about these characters and what happens to them.
SOCORRO Y DIOS MÍO DE MI VIDA QUEEEEEE
me he leído un libro de 700 páginas donde pasan un montón de cosas en 2 días, creo que no tengo que añadir NADA MÁS✨
This review contains spoilers for books four through six in the series! You have been warned!
Random Shit I Wrote Down In My Notes While Re-Reading Queen Of Shadows Because I Just Wanted To TBH:
• Dorian :(((
• We're finally calling her Aelin yessssss
• Y'all already know how I feel about this dude. Fuck Arobynn bro
• Chaol stop being an asshole
• Eeeeeh I forgot Chesryn was a thing
• Lysandra and Evangelineeeee <3
• Poor Aedion :(
• Elideeeee
• I think I must've skipped Chaol's POV chapters when I first read this because I don't remember any of this lmao
• Aelin and Aedion acting kinda sus ngl
Wow! What a book. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
So far this is my favorite book in the series!
My thoughts on Dorian:I loved his character progression. I was horrified when he was imprisoned but loved seeing him constantly fighting! I would have been devastated if he couldn't be saved.Chaol:For most of the book he irritated me, his attitude was awful! But I think seeing Dorian like he was helped him see things from Aelin's perspective. Love his redemption!Rowan, Aedion, Nesryn, Elide, LysandraNew characters which I love. I'm so happy to see Lysandra and Aelin's friendship.Elide - I'm very interested in where her journey goes.Love Nesryn! Love the brotherhood with Rowan and AedionManon and the blackbeaksI was so excited to see their change, I'm so looking forward to seeing this storylineIn the end I felt a tiny bit sorry for the King. Sad that he ended up imprisoned for 10 years with that awful demon inside :( I think this book was just as much about the character changes/development than it was the storyline
SJM has a talent when it comes to the last 100 pages of any book she writes.
One word I would use to describe my reaction to the ending is:
Gobsmacked
It was that good. RTC!
Edit: Arguably one of her best books ever written
Pretty decent story, I liked the flow of the story. It reminds me of ancient Japanese sagas.
Both gut-wrenching and satisfying. This epic narrative continues Celaena's journey with a blend of intense emotions and exhilarating action. Maas skillfully crafts a tale that is heavy with character development and plot twists, leading readers through a rollercoaster of feelings. The novel's deep exploration of themes like loyalty, betrayal, and redemption adds layers of depth to the story. The action scenes are vivid and well-executed, complementing the intricate plot. Despite its heart-rending moments, the book ends on a note of triumph and hope, leaving readers both emotionally moved and eagerly anticipating the next chapter in this gripping saga.
Mi libro favorito hasta ahora, LOS FEELS SON REALES.
Toma Sarah tu corona, se te cayó.
The further I get into this series, the further in love I fall. Aelin (Caelena) is such an all encompassing main female lead that I can't help but get lost in her story. She's strong, intelligent, compassionate, deadly...a queen.
Even with a diverse range of characters, they all have a role and are all equally intriguing, and you will feel something one way or another towards them
Solid four stars. The first half of this dang book was so slow, as a lot of SJM books tend to be for me. It was like nothing happened for 350 pages. I felt pulled away to read other books, which is why it took me 3.5 months to finish it.
But once the halfway point passed, things really picked up and I was hooked yet again.
I was so excited to finally see Aelin and Manon meet! After an entire book and a half of waiting for our two queens to come face to face! And it was an awesome fight too.
Going to tandem read Empire and Tower... wish me luck!
This. Book. THIS BOOK.
Everything about this book was amazing. Every character jumped out of the pages and you could feel the emotions behind them. You know why they act certain ways or do certain things. New characters are introduced but more importantly, the characters we love have grown and changed. That is what I love about this book; the events DO break some of the characters and we can see that in this book. Chaol was a hot mess at the start of this book. I pitied him but at the same time I wanted to yell at him to wake up!!
My favorite character has to be Manon. She's amazingly cruel but you can see her battling her ‘duty' constantly throughout the book when she helps Elide and then our lovely gang. Honestly, I like all of the characters. I didn't like Rowan very much in the last book, but wow did he change my mind this time around. I can't wait for the next installment.
