Sinais de Fogo

Sinais de Fogo

1979 • 631 pages

It's a nice book set in a very troubled period of the XX century. It depicts a vacation trip, made by a young adult, to Figueira da Foz (Portugal) exactly when the Spanish Civil War broke out. It involves love, political ideas, heroic acts and a somewhat degenerate society entering into a fascist régime.
It starts with a very simple narrative and storytelling and it gets denser as the story gets more dramatic and the main character more confused in the world and a more poetic person. It does end up being confusing, and at times boring (i.e dealing with the character's thoughts and feelings about the situations and society).
It's (has it is said in the preface) an unfinished book made by a poet, wich started as a tale and ended up as a romance, so it does lack a lot of things when it comes to pace and consistency.
