This one was on my TBR forever. A Pulitzer Prize winner written by a female that takes place outside of Chicago? I'm in!
I loved this story. It's a riches to rags to riches story that isn't about riches. It's about beauty and making the most out of life. It's about HOW to live. It's wonderful and I couldn't put it down.
It was easier for me to read the story when it was about Selina, who I adored. Dirk was not my favorite character and I just didn't understand his motivation (for the most part). This is, sadly, a story I would have appreciated more if I'd read it in the time it was written, but I still loved it.
It's kind of what I wanted the Little House books to be.
