The first book I mentioned how there were a few YA tropes present that I didn't care for. I have no complaints on that regard in the sequel. In fact I have no complaints at all. The world is still interesting, the characters continued to develop very nicely, and M. Bot was still hilarious.
I enjoyed the themes present in this one more as well, especially in regards to Spensa's furthering development as a person. So all in all, the last one was a 4.5 so this one can only be a 5.
While I loved the first one more, Starsight is a worthy sequel. It takes Spensa's universe to a whole new level and then some. I really love that we get to start seeing other alien races and different places. One of my favorite things about Sci-Fi is how “out there” it can get.
I started off reading this one, then switched to the audio, and without even meaning to .. whelp I finished it. The narrator for this one is awesome and made it an easy listen.
With this being a four book series (I believe) I expected this one to be a little slow. There were some moments that dragged on a tad but that didn't dampen my love for it as a whole. The audio definitely helped for the slower parts.
Looking forward to the next one and seeing where Spenda, M-Bot and friends (new and old) head to next.
One of the rare instances where the second book is better than the first. I wish I could rate it higher than 5 stars because Skyward was a 5 star read for me too. The characters in this one we're exceptional! Spensa is one of the most relatable characters I've ever met and M-Bot has my whole heart. All of the new characters womred their way in to this story and had me laughing and felling in love with them as well. Sanderson can do no wrong!
Like the first book, I wasn't convinced I was going to enjoy this. But it was more interesting than most, so I plugged along. And I'm very happy I did! The last parts came together so smoothly and made for a fascinating conclusion with a thrilling epilogue to top it off. Can't wait to dig into the next one.
Took a bit for me to get into this entry compared to the first one. Once things pick up, it keeps that pace. I missed the vibe of the first book along with the missing characters, but the new ones introduced were still a treat.
A fun YA sci-fi book with some good world-building.
To me it felt a bit stupid that Spensa would go to her enemy's space school, proceed to show off her skills as a pilot (these aliens have seen her skills in combat, couldn't that blow her cover?) and teach them the best way to train their pilots.. so that they could come and kill some humans. Of course through the power of friendship it all works out in the end. She didn't really try and blend in and try to pretend to be a different alien race either - she was her usual loud/angry self, with a lot of human mannerisms.Feels like throughout the book there wasn't really many consequences for her actions. Maybe I've read too many depressing adult sci-fi/fantasy books lately (looking at you, The Fifth Season) and this is just how YA is.

Brandon Sanderson has hit it out of the park again! At least for me his books never fail to entertain, make me think, laugh and cry. It's why he's remained my favourite author currently writing since first reading one of his books. The sequel to Skyward was very different from what I was expecting, but in the best way possible. Spensa is shot off into an all new adventure that includes an an entirely new cast of strange and interesting characters, proving that Sanderson is definitely not loosing his amazingly talented imagination. Spensa must use what she learned previously in Skyward to survive politics and an even bigger threat to the galaxy than anyone previously imagined. Sanderson deftly deals with some pretty heavy current issues through the story, but it never feels heavy handed and the choices are never easy. Of course even with a lot of things to think on, it never takes away from the entertainment value of the story. I continue to love M-Bot and Doomslug and Spensa's interactions with them. I also loved many of the new characters and creatures that are introduced. The action is exciting and written in a way that always feels like a movie playing in my head. Overall Sanderson expands the world exponentially in this volume and it feels both comfortingly familiar and brand new at the same time. I'm very excited to see where it all leads! The ending will definitely have you clambering for more...I want the third book now!
yeah, that's a no from me dawg!
This book devolved from some cool concepts to the same old trope eldritch type entities terrorizing the galazy and some random person can suddenly save it. Don't get me wrong, I knew what I was signing up, however, I had to turn the disbelief factor a couple of notches to even get to the ending. This is unfortunate since I love the world building and characters from Sanderson and really was looking forward to reading the third book but I'm not so sure anymore.
I loved the book, the series is amazing. But the ending! Ah the ending was a travesty. I needed ten chapters more or ten chapters less.
