In my childhood bookshelf I had a Random House book called [b:The Berenstain Bears Get the Gimmies 1129297 The Berenstain Bears Get the Gimmies Stan Berenstain http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1344369021s/1129297.jpg 783739]. It was a fun book on learning about behavior when it comes to obsession with things and the desire for more and more to an unrealistic and unhealthy level. Now, readers are blessed to have a new book retouching the topic with a Christian message in it by Mike & Jan Berenstain, [b:Berenstain Bears and the Trouble with Things 14878221 Berenstain Bears and the Trouble with Things Jan Berenstain http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1347983382s/14878221.jpg 20531952]. In this new book, we are talking more about toys than candy, but the message is the same about balancing your desires and needs with things you buy. And this time around we come back to God and what he provides. Then of course, this time around we also have Honey Bear who didn't exist in the first book. Reading these two books together is fun and I love seeing the gradual changes of the illustrations, but I'm delighted with the changes and bringing forth a Christian message in something that was already full of values and virtues of moral worth. “Turn my eyes away from worthless things.” - Psalm 119:37Thanks to Zondervan for providing a copy for review.
