This first book in The God-King Chronicles is about two peoples, two cultures in the inconvenient situation of having to learn to coexist lest they end up slaughtering each other for survival. There's a lot of tiny details about this to unpack. Two opposing groups, both external and internal disagreements about honour, tradition, beliefs etc. All of it delivered through compelling characters you can't help but adore.

There are two minor POVs (Tila and Jeya) with a story that takes place somewhere else, and they mostly feel like introduction to future books of this series. I wish they'd tied into the main plot more than they did. I suppose I'll have to be patient and wait for the sequel.

All in all an enjoyable read. I'm very much looking forward to see what happens next.
