As per usual, I really enjoyed the family dynamics of the novel. Emaline's relationship with her father, the relationship developed with her mother, and the distinction she makes between father and dad were all really compelling. I thought all of the characters, in fact, were really interesting, except for Theo.
Sometimes, Theo's character was not consistent, especially when him and Emaline broke up. He suddenly became much more stuck up and stereotypical New York-y. He was also super insta love-y. But, I do appreciate that the protagonist doesn't end up with a guy for once.
it was super interesting to see a protagonist discover herself, not by falling in love with a guy, but by figuring out what she does and doesn't want because of a guy she doesn't love. I really liked how emaline came to love herself on her own.
I also would have liked to see more of Emaline's dad and sisters, but that's just personal preference.
I think it's because I've read so many it Sarah dessen's books, but the writing was a little stake, which is why the rating is lower.
