Oh, no. No, no, no. Apparently Cassandra Clare hasn't learned to write any better during the 16 years since she started writing City of Bones. I read The Mortal Instruments. All six books of them. That is quite enough for me to know I don't like this woman's books. BUT... people are saying she gets better. This is her last, GoodReads Choice Award Nominee 2019, maybe people aren't flies, eating crap because millions of other flies eat it...
The first sentence of this book is... awful. It just looks pretty, describing Paris as a box of bonbons with Seine as a silver ribbon around it... but that's not how Paris looks.
The following 20 aren't any better. Not in writing style or content.
Alec goes to Eiffel Tower to write postcards to friends and family, and whereas he didn't seem to have any, or be the kind of person who sends postcards, or any Shadowhunter being the kind of a person who cares about postcards, Alec sits on top of the Eiffel Tower and writes postcards. To whom?
He writes “Wish you were here” on them. Alec?
A lock of his always-disheveled black hair was falling into his eyes.
