The Sea Captain's Wife

The Sea Captain's Wife

2010 • 294 pages

I am not sure if I loved this book because I, too, would have dreamed of sailing the seas during this time, or if I just like Azuba so much. This is a very readable novel that features a strong female character who grows by leaps and bounds by the end. Details of the places they travel too are a little sparce, but Powning captures relationships with a master's hand. I was impressed with the emotion invoked in the relationship between Azuba and Nathaniel and between Azuba and Carrie.
Life on board the ship is also rendered with precious detail that I found very interesting.
Overall, a great read. I stumbled upon it and was glad I did.
