"Are you happy here?" I said at last. He considered this for a moment. "Not particularly," he said. "But you're not very happy where you are, either."
what I love most about this book is that although there's a definite plot line and series of important events, the most compelling part of the book is the characters and how they all intertwine. it's incredibly easy for an author to make you support a cast of characters, but donna tartt writes each character so well and so in-depth that you leave the story wondering if they were ever genuine at any point. although I wasn't the biggest fan of the ending (or the time jump—when will they learn? 😔) my disappointment was greatly made up for in beautiful writing and rich character exploration. francis abernathy served cunt in every single scene he was in.
Oof. This book echoes so completely a Greek tragedy that I can say I haven't been quite so emotionally wrecked since Antigone. It's so lovely and so despairing that I really cannot decide whether or not it'll make it to my favorites shelf.
Beautifully written. Composed, precise writing guides the story, which is suspenseful. Even though I grew to dislike (a lot) the characters, I couldn't wait to see how the story ended.
Read 88%+the epilogue
Counting it as read
I am never trusting tiktok again
Not a spoiler since it reference an event that is told un a first line but :
The book should have ended with bunny's funeral and skip to the very last events of the book because after that it is of a boring
Trully it wasn't that great yo begin with , or great at all , but the premise was quite good , it feel dragged and become unestersting after a point
And thexway it narrate wich was interesting at the beginning just become annoying
Now at least I can say that I read it
Will probably never recommend to anybody
Also to my surprise the character feel bland all veneer but shallow could have been done better
A good book, but, for me, overly descriptive and meandering enough that reading it sometimes felt like a chore.
