Beautiful prose, alternating lush descriptions with spare assessments of people, animals, and land. I read this slim volume slowly, savoring the images. Though a collection of essays, this book reads much more cohesively than most modern essay collections. A good comp for fans of Terry Tempest Williams, Edward Abbey, or Henry David Thoreau.
