The Whole-Brain Child

12 Revolutionary Strategies to Nurture Your Child's Developing Mind, Survive Everyday Parenting Struggles, and Help Your Family Thrive

2011

Short review: My wife and I listened to this together on several longish drives over a six week period. It was a good book for discussion of parenting. The overall focus of the book is to give parents (and other caregivers) strategies on how to help children integrate their Left and Right sides of their brain (roughly creative/logical) and their upper/lower brain (primal/planning). The book is not placing parts of the brain as better than others, but rather trying to help us understand that all are part of our make up and that we are better off integrated. A friend who is a family counselor suggested the book and I think it is well worth reading. But there is way too much content for an easy summary. I plan on re-reading in 6 or 8 months to get a second dose.
