I should not be judging books by their covers so readily. I had overly high hopes for this book because the cover art is so darling. It came as a blow, then, when this book was not everything I thought it would be. It was certainly enjoyable, yes. I like how the children classified themselves as old-fashioned because I so often feel old-fashioned. I did NOT like the oldest child's attitude and though the author points out that he has a good heart, I just never got that vibe from him. His character was funny, no doubt, but he didn't get my sympathy at all. I did enjoy the interconnectedness of all the stories, but in the end I found it extremely predictable. I believe intelligent and well-read children will enjoy this book, but it doesn't quite translate for adults.
