Not bad. Have to appreciate the likely massive pressure Hawkins was under, and she's done fine. This is a decent second novel. The beginning is difficult, with all the different voices, but once you get the hang of it, it works out just fine, and is quite captivating.
There's a small English town, repeated death by jumping in the river, some feminist agenda, lots of dysfunctional people and difficult women... It's kind of neat that it all works as well as it does. Entertaining.
