Vision in Silver

I was disappointed with the pace of this book. It slowed to a crawl, the story is still interesting, but I feel like the friendship between Meg and Simon moved backwards. I also feel like the premise of this book came up out of nowhere. Shouldn't it have been an issue in the first 2 books? I'm trying not to put any spoilers in here, so yeah, it is a little vague.
