Despite his name being absolute trash among fantasy readers, Goodkind's debut in the Sword of Truth series was one of my first foray's into ‘adult' fantasy when I was still in high school and is really what got me into reading it regularly, something that hasn't changed since. I still think fondly on this first book and by itself, it really is very good. Later books slowly spiral down into a bogged down, preachy mess that I was not so fond of, but I can't help but still hold a special place for this one, as it was my window into the fantasy genre. It has adventure, romance and magic in spades and had me wrapped up in the story right from the first page all the way until the satisfying conclusion. Though there are much better series out there today, I can't help but be thankful for reading this, as it was what paved the way for so many others down the road.
