Nice quick read. It was funny and clean and a great mystery. Loved it. Am into the full series now.
I received an advanced copy of the audiobook from EWC Press Audio. It was entertaining but clunky. It would have been great with a little more structure.
The narration also needed a little work. Again, just a little clunky.
My Sister, the Serial Killer is a funny, dark thriller about Korede and her sister, Ayoola, set in Lagos, Nigeria. Ayoola has a habit of killing her boyfriends, and loyal Korede is always there to help her clean up her mess. At first, these incidents seem to be self-defense or accidental, but Korede begins to suspect her sister is more sinister than she seems.
It is a short, fast read that keeps you enthralled throughout. This story made me laugh several times and kept me guessing until the end. The ending was a little disappointing, but it was still good. I laughed out loud, “Shame, I know thy name.” I will be looking for other books written by Ms. Braithwaite.
I cannot stop talking about this book! Elena is such an intriguing character. She was so relatable, in how she handled her situations. The way the author wrote this made it feel like I was hearing a story from one of my relatives. I am already planning to reread this before the end of the year. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for making this available.
I felt like this was a very slow-paced book. The story is ok, but it drags most of the way through. The story itself has potential, but drones on just a bit.
I received a copy of the audiobook through NetGalley. Many thanks to them and the publisher.
I loved everything about this book. I could identify with Lenny in many ways. I will reread this, for sure.
This is the debut novel from Kerryn Mayne. It follows a reclusive and slightly odd grade school teacher who is dealing with a past trauma brought back to the forefront when she receives a letter from the parole board.
Lenny is a very relatable character that you will instantly love. Mayne's writing is sharp, with moments of dark humor and vulnerability. It moves gracefully from a fun read to a suspenseful novel. The twists are unpredictable, which keeps you reading (I thought about this book constantly and picked it up at every chance.)
It's a great read! I can't wait to read more from Mayne.
