Wow, I liked this! Thank you Chando the author for giving me this for free in exchange for an honest review.
I gotta say I loved that the main characters were adopted, siblings. We, unfortunately, don't see or read stories with adopted sibling often in a good light, even though those kinds of siblings is very often. I liked Mia and Lilou the most though, Atlas was kind of meh to me. I guess he just took all this Adora isn't my real mom a bit too high in the beginning. I really liked that even though he found his real dad he didn't think of Lilou and Nico and Adora as not a family anymore especially because Spoilerwell his dad died. I liked that. Also, I'm pretty sure dr. Faraday is gonna become a father figure now. This is weird considering that both he and Adora are Atlas's birth parents' doppelgangers, lol. The science in this wasn't really that realistic but who cares? It's sci-fi anyways. I did find it slow and too descriptive at parts. Maybe that's on me as I am not the best at paying attention to the boring stuff. I just like the action and the talking parts most. I loved that the author didn't make Atlas and Mia a couple. I hate when they do that, especially to first friends at stuff. I gotta say this book deserves more attention and more readers for sure. Maybe it will get popular, who knows? I may read the second one, not sure. If the author gives it to me for free too, then yeah?! lol.
I got an ARC from EDELWEISS+ as an exchange for an honest review.
This one was so different from what I'm used to. I mean, sadly I never read a book where the MC is indigenous nor nonbinary. I liked it! It was very obviously inspired by Alice in Wonderland but in a modern, indigenous way. I love how they say “Cristopher Colombus didn't discover America” as I say that too all the time, I find it so ridiculous that history and geography books say that... The queen was more hardcore in this one. The pacing was a little too fast for my liking, but the illustrations were good. I liked that we got a dictionary of indigenous words used in the back as I didn't understand a lot of things. I recommend this, and I'm glad I read it!
An interesting book about some Albanian kids who emigrate to Italy for a better life, but find out that happiness is found in people, friendships, and family. It was a good book, I felt bad for the kids so much in some parts and I am so glad some good books are written by Albanians... No offense to Albanians obviously, I'm one of them, lol
It's more like a children's chapter book, ages 7-10 then MG as it's marketed. I like that the MC has my name, it feels pretty awesome as I'm also named Anisa and haven't seen characters with my name much anywhere. the story was cute, I definitely liked Golden Girl better obviously.
eh the illustrations were cool and vintage like but the story felt cliche and the pacing was a bit weird...
a nice book I liked it and it was very helpful and well written!!! It's quite surprising that it stands today as a self-help book even though it's pretty old!!!
Crime and Punishment: Classic World Literature
This was interesting, basically, the main character is this young man who is studying law and he is in debt and stuff to this old wicked woman. So he decided killing her would be good for everyone as there's one less parasite for Russia. And he does but then he lives with that burden the whole time acting like crazy, worrying everyone, and is in high-stress mode all the time. He is kind in his heart and his decision wasn't that egoistic as he worries and cares a lot about his family especially his sister who is willing to marry this rich, evil man just so they have money. So the story is basically contemporary with some killings, crimes, and suicide. The characters mostly have good intentions even if they don't seem so. It's an interesting take on if committing a crime is a crime if it was for good and stuff. I actually enjoyed it even though names were confusing as they were pretty similar... Rodia was a very complex and interesting character! Oh, and it's also very focused on religion and God as the way Rodia feels better is through that and many people keep mentioning to pray to God so he forgives his sins. It's an old book but it was pleasant to read!
Phew, I almost forgot to leave a review on, lol
Thanks to NetGalley for this audiobook ARC!
It took me quite some time to finish this audiobook, not that it wasn't interesting, it's just it was only on my mom's phone's NetGalley app so I could only listen rarely... anyways, I liked it.
The book cover looks so GOOD! It looks mysterious and intriguing. It's a cute fantasy story about these siblings whose parents go on a “business” trip and then they just get zooned into this other world Alexandria if I'm not mistaken... And then they have these clues and stuff and figure some stuff. Some people seem to be after their parents and them and they try to figure out why. There are these nursery rhymes that are changed, and only they understand. Then they also have this big dog who apparently has some powers. It's a creative and unique story, I give it that. The sibling dynamics were nice, and I liked Tuesday's guts, Zed was nice too, he was pretty clever. I guess it was a big generic MG fantasy at some parts, but it was nice. I don't understand why on the cover Tuesday looks much older than Zed when in the book they seem to be pretty much the same age... Anyways, it was nice, the narrator did a pretty good job, and it sounded so well in 1.5 or 1.75 speed, even 2x so I liked that! I'm happy with this one!!!
The best book I really enjoyed it! It was written very well and Leo was a great character. Her sisters were amazing too and I can't wait to read her stories as an Spoileroffical bruja!
I read this because I felt stupid for not reading it... I mean, I know it sounds weird. I am a big bookworm and I believe that old books and classics should be read because they tell us a lot about society in the past, especially the ones written by famous writers like Charles Dickens. I have only read Hard Times before this, so I gave Oliver Twist a try. I had the original copy but it went way too long... the audiobook was well too but I saw this short one in the library so I went with it, lol. It was dark at times and hell some died in pretty freaky ways... Oliver was way too innocent and kind, I mean he had all the reasons to turn evil or something but he didn't. Sometimes he even seemed too dumb like he didn't even notice that they were thieves and stealing even though it was soo obvious! I guess that's how Dickinson wanted him to be. London back then must have been horrible and people were punished by getting hooked publically and dying... Anyways this is my take but I did appreciate it as an old treasure!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I actually really enjoyed this one! I'm pretty happy with the story and satisfied with the ending. I'm interested in reading the sequel too, if the publisher is too kind to give it to me, lol. Peri and Roy were both interesting and fairly complex lead characters. Peri was very strong, confident, and had courage. Roy was a soft artist, so that was nice, but he was also very loyal. I'd say both of them are very very important to the adventure and story, but maybe Peri was more as she was magical, spoiler I guess? The world building and things were build very nicely, also the system and religion too. The goose Salt was very funny but annoying sometimes. I'd say it was a book I'm glad I read, and eve more glad that it didn't rely on romance!
Thanks to NetGalley for this arc comic book, the opinions are my own.
The cover, the premise, the art style were so amazing and got me hooked into it.
I gotta say it's soo weird, the witch girl on the cover isn't really a witch, but a young cosplayer who is kind of depressed and loves horror books, comics, and movies. Weird. I didn't understand almost anything, but it still made me read more. She summons this demon girl who grants a wish, but she doesn't know what to wish for so they become friends maybe even lovers, dunno. There's this other kid who comes to Teresa's shop who loves to read manga and the demon girl loves Japan so much for some reason. They become friends and just go to the woods and become drunk... There's also this ghost who is making people disappear and weirdly they meet her too. SPOILER turns out that little girl Matilda was the one missing, but people just forgot about her?? I didn't understand what wish did Teresa even ask for, and the end didn't feel like an end.
It was very melancholic and it felt like the one who came up with the idea was drunk too???
Great as always!!! Nate is very street smart and sarcastic. I see him as ADHD thoo (you know he's very impulsive, inattentive, forgetful, messy, hyperactive, talkative, self-absorbed, trouble with friends and much more...) This one was just a collection of everything sports. Nate is not soo good with sports but he does play all kinds like Basketball, Baseball, and Soccer... Anyways, recommend it to Big Nate fans!!!
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC comic book, the opinions here are my own.
Well, the cover looked so cute! And for some reason, I thought the two main girls on the cover are gonna be a couple or something... I dunno. Also, I thought maybe it's gonna be what love really is in all its ways not just romantically. Everyone here was like straights and allo, annoying. Love is in family, friendship, things, books but it can be romantic too, but not only that. The art style and the views there are pretty good! And how we had dangerous kind of love mentioned... I didn't hate it, but not something I liked much either. I'd say if they drop another volume, I'm not gonna read it.
as a follower of the mini adhd coach instagram account I of course wanted to read the new book too, and got the ARC and read it all in a day, pretty addicting, fun, and important lessons and tips, will be trying to do and see if it'll help. as someone who's quite knowledgeable about adhd due to the online communities, I didn't learn much new things but the tips and hacks were interesting enough, hopefully they;ll help.
this... i don;t even know how to explain, I just loved it, all of it. got into it just because I liked the cover, it was MG and had a Black probably autistic girl MC, that's all. and boy was I in for a surprise and a shock and tears. the probability of me thinking I'll be crying before starting this book we're like 0.2, but it still happened. i'd say give it a try, whatever you think the book will be like, I promise it's better. very important lessons and topics covered, a brilliant book, just great writing! read it now! the probability that you'll like this book is about 0.9 so goooo!
SpoilerOK, so this book was nothing how I expected. I thought it's gonna be a soft book (even though the cover might have said otherwise) about an autistic girl and her struggles with making friends. In a way, it was also that but it was edgy and too much YA than MG. Basically, a lot of trouble happens in this, from underage drinking to bullying, to drug-making neighbors to troubled families, it was a big mess. As if being autistic isn't enough it had to be to the X-treme (get it? Imma head out sorry). I found Kiara's special interest to be cute even though I'm not into X-men but I do love comics a lot anyways! The book felt like it was set in the old days I dunno why. Like in the early 2000's something. I loved that Kiara was trying hard to do the right thing and be a friend to Chad even though he wasn't doing the same exactly and Kiara kept making a lot of trouble anyways. She just didn't seem to think things through I guess (relatable). Since the moment we met Chad I was so sure he was ADHD and the thing that they were making Methamphetamines made me more sure. But when we learned more about his crazy abusers and drug producers' parents I'm not so sure. Other kids did find him weird and he was failing but that could have been because of his terrible parents and constant stress as well. I'm not sure but an ASD girl befriending an ADHD guy looked nice to me. Anyways Brandon was very cute though. I didn't like the drinking and kids beating themselves up. I found it weird that Kyara liked hanging out with them because I can't even imagine myself doing it, it makes me feel so itchy... I didn't like that the author used the term Aspergers to describe Kyara's condition and that Kyara kept calling it a mutation of DNA and stuff. It's not like that. Aspergers is not a type of autism, it's autism spectrum disorder itself. And also why wasn't Kyara sensitive to the loud noises, like the police and firefighter sirens, the explosion, people shouting and beating each other up, seeing people all burned and stuff. I'm sure I would have died if I was in her place. And failing tests on purpose was a pretty bold move. Also making her be a genius at all subjects didn't seem realistic to me, autism isn't like that. I don't know if the author is ASD herself but some stuff didn't feel right to me. It did keep me very interested in it tho, I hyperfocused and read it in a few hours. I'd say maybe such bold books aren't for me, I dunno. I do hope Kyara lives happily with her mom and her new brothers though. I mean they deserve a good family but am not sure Kyara's parents are the ones. They didn't seem to understand their autistic daughter much and now they have a possible ADHD kid and one small cutie bean too. Yeah, Imma head out! If you're into these kinda stories, give it a go. I won't stop ya! Oh, and I liked Kyara's google searching, I do that too, not sure if it helped tho... And I liked that Kyara was not a typical girl but a tomboy, I liked that! Good book for those who love bold and pretty YA books with troubled characters!
Thank you Edelweiss+ for this beautiful ARC picture book, I enjoyed it!
This is so ADORABLE! It's a kids' picture book about Zahra and Ramadan. It celebrates little things and family. Zahra wants a sister so much and she gets that. I loved that they actually adopted one from the refugees which are so sweet! I recommend this to all who want to buy some cute picture books for their kids, especially Muslim families as this is a MUST! I'm gonna read this to my sisters for sure! Also, why did everyone have freckles? Cute.
This won a Nobel prize! And I seriously don't get why. Like yes, it's great it's a Chinese author talking about his life in the older days like the 60s, 70s, 80s, etc. Maybe people who are older would enjoy this more, so I don't get why it was on an HS library, lol. Mo talked more about Le Wenglu and He Zhiwu than himself. And all we know about himself is that he's bad lucked, has a big mouth, was in the army, and loved these trucks a lot, that's it. We also know he got married, but not much about his wife. We know more about He Zhiwu's wife though, lol. I guess it was beautiful in its own interesting way. I gotta say I don't understand why people call him China's Kafka when Kafka's works are much different and bizarre, this one wasn't. Anyways, I'd say it wasn't bad, but not something I'd go on recommending to everyone and I'd reread...
Thanks to NetGalley for this wonderful book!
I gotta say this was written so well! I loved it! Cara was such a relatable and real feeling character. I liked that it was first person. I also really liked that it felt so MG contemporary like more than half but of course with magical elements of faes. I think it was done so nicely that it feels real, not just be too heavy that it seems unbelievable. Her sister Bri was soo cute, and I like how this book handled grief and the ways other people feel it, especially how Bri went mute. I liked that Bri was an artist too and her sparkle and familiar were so cool too. I liked that there were actual adults who helped. I liked this story, and when the author published the second one, I'll be up for it!
