Ok.... so I started this book with maybe way too high hopes! In the description, it says that she has ADHD but in the book, it never really is mentioned only anxiety and Executive Function Disorder is which is a part of ADHD... Hess is a nice character who is quite realistic. The book tends to look like some sort of self-help book with a story of a girl going through challenges which I don't think was really intended. The plot is nice and well-written incorporated with movie-like language which was fun. The ending wasn't very well said. SpoilerIt just ends with her showing her movie at the HOOT and with the word This is not a movie. This is my life. Ok, I get it... but it doesn't really tell if she passed 8th Grade or not which was disappointing for me... I was really looking forward to her success and appreciation from Ms. Walker, but nope... It reminded me quite a lot of “Fish in a Tree” which is one of my faves. Hess really didn't have much accommodations and support from school except the school counselor who didn't do much either. The teachers should have decreased the number of homework and the time limit a bit at least! But maybe it was more realistic this way cuz the school system really sucks cuz they don't see the students as human and all unique individuals but all like some robots who have to follow each order exactly... Anyways would recommend it to anyone who likes books with neurodivergent characters and those who are neurodivergent themselves and can/like to read! 4 stars from me!
OMG!!! I loved this manga sooooo much... The ending wasn't very nice tho... I just like Ryan and Emma soo much! Jasmine and Johan were nice tho... SpoilerWhy did they have to fricking breakup??? Why did Ryan only have to see Emma once a year now... I'm crying.... It was very funny a little romantic and all-around with many different supernatural characters that were so likable, except the Association... uhh It was a very looong manga tho... and I really would like some sort of epilogue of them all living happily ever after in the end... And I guess I would have liked it if Emma and Ryan were just close friends but they were nice together... And even the redhead werewolf (forgot his name) was cute too... The world was amazing but very unfair too... Humans and nonhumans can't really be together much... and having to keep it a secret and having memories deleted from humans was quite cruel... Still, I liked it and I was really hooked on it. I finished it only in a week! I recommend it to supernatural and manga fans!!!
Edit: I read the epilogues, they don't tell us much tho... I really wish we could learn more about what happened to the side characters... And the art style is just AMAZING!!!
Obviously, I won't rate a Holy Book. I read the Quran pretty often and during the month of Ramadan, I finished all 604 pages of it for the 7th time I think... Anyways Eid Mubarak to everyone!
dull as hell, 150 pages of rambling
It's not based on science at all, it's all in believing you're well, you're a substance, and being thankful to God, that's all. I mean the author just says the same things over and over. I found some of his ‘advice' even dangerous, he says you shouldn't even eat or drink if you're not hungry or thirsty... Also, he says you don't even need to go to the doctor as you can heal yourself with positive thoughts, and not thinking about being ill at all.... um, what? Like, I get that positive thinking can help, but that is extreme... He presents no facts whatsoever while repetitively claiming it's the science of wellbeing.... yikes. I don't recommend this, the e advice it gives can be all on a short list, and aren't that helpful anyways. The only good parts were, about sleep, deep breaths and that's it, and I already knew that already...
OK, so this book is such a mixed bag, seriously it has many topics that it touches and a lot of representation. It felt so YA. Basically, the main topic is Pipi and the humiliations she had over the years and now in the last year of middle school, she decided to change, redeem herself and get revenge. It touches on her bullying years and now she starts to be the bully. Hurt people hurt people
The characters were so real and believable. Her family was definitely different. Her parents were divorced and her mom got remarried and later gets pregnant again. Her parents are still friends and her dad is friends with Pipi's mom's new husband. Pipi's older sister is a single teen mother of a very gifted and adorable preschooler, Annie. Pipi's only friends, in the beginning, were Tasha a black dyslexic girl with a love for audiobooks especially Crow Reavers, and Ricky a guy Spoilerwho had a crush on her but the feelings aren't mutual and it doesn't lead anywhere, which I liked! I hated when Pipi never acknowledged Tasha and how she felt to be left out. Tasha struggling with reading her fave series was painful to me. Pipi gets so self-obsessed and turns out she has always been like that. Feeling pity for herself instead of looking at the bright sides. It's true that her humiliations were pretty bad but she did have friends on her side, always. She becomes friends with Sarah and Jackson. She keeps lying, keeping secrets, and just trying to get revenge all the time. She hurts a lot of people along the way, even those who did nothing to her. Kara was a very 2-dimensional character... bleh. Sarah's story was touching SpoilerI knew she is gonna be gay. She was a good friend and had her struggles especially living with her mom who is a twin and her annoying cousin. They were pretty homophobic but thankfully her parents were supportive. And her friends too. It was a sweet book and it touched many things. I recommend, Pipi really developed in the end, in her confidence and kindness. We just never see her apologizing to Tasha for real though. Good for middle grade and young adult admirers! I'd say I loved the references and that no romance develops with the main characters at all!
Such a fun listen. I loved the narration style and the twists!!! It was a great idea and original story! Highly recommend it, you can listen to it free in Audible Stories...
Thanks to NetGalley, the author, and publisher for giving me this ARC book to read and review for free. First off, the cover is beautiful, it's what drove me to it the most, the title is pretty catchy too!
This one was interesting, it's a YA fantasy series with Norse mythology. I personally am a big fan of mythologies but never had the chance to read a Norse one yet (I like Loki and Thor from MARVEL though). It's told from the perspective of Elin who is a dormant descendant, Aedan who is an unregistered clan member and has special abilities, and Tristian who is a Hunter out to find dormant. It's pretty YA generic but its focus wasn't romanced even if it seemed like it was a love triangle, I absolutely didn't ship any with anyone... I guess the chem wasn't there or I just don't see it. Anyways, the writing style was fun and the worldbuilding was done fairly. The book's main conflict is never really stated and understood well like it's some political thing, the clans are being mean and unfair or something, not sure... This book got me hooked and interested in knowing more, the ending isn't resolved as it's set to be a series so we'll most likely continue there in the next book. The plot was kind of slow at some parts though and I couldn't understand why Elin thought she liked those guys... She still was an interesting character but I just saw her accepting that she's some special person was done too quickly. Like in real life people wouldn't get comfortable with those supernatural stuff so fast?! But anyways the book was pretty good, especially as a first and I'd like to read the next ones too! I'm excited as I love fantasy books with mythology and no romance focused. So, yeah read this!!!
this was really YA, it was fun, interesting and sweet. I liked KATZA AND PO AND THE LITTLE QUEEN BITTERBLUE
really cool book about a tween girl's Raina anxiety issues and senstitive stomach. I related to her to some extent and I really loved the idea and the art style. Raina Telgemeier is a really good author!!!
cute book with a lesson and the illustrations are fascinating!!! read it with my little sis...
Just great, I don't know but the ending made me teary... In the beginning, I liked Joe but Ravi (Ra-Vee) seemed kinda selfish, and arrogant that he thought that he is the best and stuff. I didn't understand why he wanted to be Dillion's friend so much. But then I understood more and he just had trouble fitting in you know, he came all the way from India. People at school looked at him differently and Dillion was just the worst! I've never seen a worse Elementary School bully ever... Joe was sweet and people looked at him differently just because of his APD or Auditory Processing Disorder, and the fact that he was a big boy who loved to eat! It was a cool concept of writing the story from both perspectives and I believe their friendship is gonna be great. SpoilerAnd Dillion really deserved that thing in the end... He was simply the worse! Highly recommend!
The only thing I didn't like was the way they talked about girls, how they're dumb, can't play sports, and just always like Dillion and stuff... The authors were female for God's sake!!!
It's very funny and cool. I love the illustrations, as usual, I always read with my sister who is a big fan! I have gotta say I don't like Tom's treatment of Delia, because hear me out, Delia is either depressed, autistic, or both... so yikes. And Tom is pretty much ADHD, you can fight me on that! Anyways, that's all, his birthday party was fun. I mean it's a series you don't need to think much about, just enjoy!
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC comic book!
More like 3.5 stars
I read this in English not French.
OK, so this is a graphic novel about a journalist and a bunch of scientists who have gone to a science exhibition on a northern pole island. The MC Emma was annoying as hell and dumb, also her crush for Sven and her obsession was too much, the ending was soo wrong, I can't... This was too scientific on telling us about climate change and the extinction of species and animals that are currently endangered or vulnerable. It was a very biological kind of book, and it felt like a textbook sometimes, to be honest, I didn't understand much. I did like the art style and how colorful and beautiful the animals looked, the people's faces not that much. The writing was a bit small, but as it's an ebook I could zoom in, having this physically to read I imagine would be painful. I do still recommend as it's message is important and learning about animals and saving the earth is something everyone should know. So the idea was great, the execution, not much...
a really good graphic novel about the tale of two sisters and their whole family of course... It's cool that the author showed her real-life history!!!
pretty gorgeous love the illustrations and i like the elf prince he has Zuko vibes and I love it
I loved this one too, obviously. I can't believe their adventure is over (I'm not sure I'll read the Cursed Child or not...) It took me two years to finish this series and that was mainly because I paused after the 5th book because I couldn't handle the deaths. Now I'm stronger and to be honest I was sad for Fred, Remus, Tonks, and stuff but I didn't die... I loved reading Snape's story and I just think this one was the most action-packed and emotional of all the others. I loved that we learned more of Dumbledore's story and Harry's insecurity and fight for life were... Seriously no other book series has captivated and touched me more than HP and that's why it will stay a forever classic. (if only she was that way too)
This book was very amazing. It was quite a light read as I finished it in a few hours. The story is about the Vanderbeekers who are a biracial family that consists of the parents, five kids Isa, Jessie, Oliver, Hyacinth, and Laney, and their three pets. They are told that they have to leave their home in Harlem 141st street in which they lived 6 years and love soo much. They plan to change their loan keepers Mr. Beiderman's mind so he can let them stay. The story was very well written and I highly recommend it...
Finally, I finished this!
Well, let me tell you a story first. I read this for the first time a few years ago from the school library, and I enjoyed it. But then I completely forgot about the title or Katy, I just knew that I read something with a girl who does all sorts of mischief, gets hurt badly, loves to read, doesn't have a mom... that's all. So I went to the “What's the name of that book?” group and some found my answer in a day! I felt so relieved and happy as I've been looking for it for a loooong time. So I picked it up as an ebook. But I didn't have much the time and patience, so when I find out it's an audiobook on LibriVox and Youtube, I went for it. It's read by Karen Savage and she's truly amazing at it! It was so enjoyable. Katy was such an interesting character, and the growth she went through was huge. I liked it, I recommend it to those who want to read some Childrens' classic that has good vibes mostly, especially the audiobook version!
Pretty great! I liked Vivy so much! I'm definitely not a baseball fan but it was fun. I loved her and VJ's friendship soo much! I was happy that she fixed stuff with her mom and her brother Nate was very supportive of her and she was very supportive of him too! I knew that Vivy's dad was autistic too!!! The ASD experiences were pretty realistic as the author is in the spectrum too! I didn't relate to the Jewish stuff but anyways... Vivy's therapist wasn't very nice and her ideas on ASD were outdated, especially the fixations and meltdown being bad and stuff... But I guess that is more realistic because people are like that, and don't see that being neurodivergent is very great and just a difference, not something bad... I will surely read the other book by Sarah Kapit!!!
I'm convinced that Shakespeare was really mad to write sth like this... It's kinda cool but mostly just... weird!!!
Emilia Rosa Torres (not Emi Rose) is a sixth-grader who has ADHD. She is from Cuba and has a mix of Yoruba and Spanish ancestry. Emilia is quite a tomboy who loves tech and mechanical stuff. She lives in Merryville with her Abuela and occasionally mom and/or dad. The thing is her Mami is an app developer who has to go in business meeting out in San Francisco and her Papi is in deployment so he isn't often at home for months! Her mom is very caring, overprotective, and anxious and always helps her daughter with school work and organizations. Emilia likes hanging out with Guz and sometimes with Clarissa even tho they eventually don't stay as friends anymore... SpoilerTo be honest she is a total brat and even tho her dad died and stuff, her actions aren't that excused. I mean she just hates Latinos somehow!!! The story occurs when Emilia's mom goes to a business place while her dad just comes back from the military and looks different (I bet he is suffering from PTSD). Emilia doesn't understand him and misses his old self. She goes through tough stuff at school too, with the new tourism guide project she has and her kinda annoying Abuela who won't stop telling her to be a senorita and prepare for Quicheniera, which Emilia doesn't like at all... Emilia's ADHD-related stuff was so relatable and real... Her sensory issues, difficulty with hyperfocus, and lack of focus, her anger issues... very REAL!!! This book is a Middle-Grade novel and I really enjoyed it. We had quite some stuff in common excluding military father and ethnicity... I highly recommend this realistic fiction novel on the everyday lives of a struggling tween at home, school, and throughout who kinda gets in together by the end!
It is funny, mysterious and spooky in a kids level. It was good to me and I knew it was a prank all along. What I didn't understand is that cats are the same size of mice??? And it's a little too telling the story in a very rushed way kind of book...
OK, so this book is written from the perspective of a girl Catherine and her challenges of having a little brother who is autistic. I got frustrated a lot by her and how she always thought she was the one going through the most. She never thought about her brother as someone else, not just his autism. I found David very cute and he didn't seem annoying to me. I kinda understand where Catherine is coming from but opening doors at other people's houses isn't that big of a deal. I liked that she got more understanding and caring at the end. Her friendship with Jason a guy who can't speak and is in a wheelchair was very sweet though. From the moment we saw that Jason didn't have enough words I knew she is going to make them for him. I loved that she was an artist (I am too). Overall, the book was a sweet book on celebrating all people's differences and that there is no NORMAL! People should stop staring and expecting everyone to look like them. Also, I found OT to be kinda weird and maybe bad?! Oh, Ryan was very dull and mean I didn't like him. To be honest, Kristi was very annoying too, Catherine shouldn't be friends with someone like her. She kept feeling sad about her parent's separation but didn't seem to care about others much, and liked Ryan, wut??? Anyways I do recommend this for anyone and maybe especially those who have family, friends, or any loved ones with special needs. DIFFERENCES ARE AWESOME!!!
I really loved this one! I read this for Middle-Grade Madness, Fairy Tale readathon, and I enjoyed it! It was just such a sweet and beautiful retelling of Red Riding Hood, with a mix of Beauty and the Beast and even Snow White, cool. But of course, those stories weren't the same as in the original, they had some twists, and they're said to have taken place a long time ago. I found the focus on death, and not being afraid of yourself and your power very important and I really appreciated it! Also Red was such an interesting MC, including her hot temper and her grumpiness which she apparently took from her granny, lol. But Goldie was definitely my favorite, she had guts, was sweet, loving, and loyal, I mean she was also kind of annoying to Red at first but then she just grew on Red and they became inseparable... Also, it was Red's fault that she was annoyed by her, I mean she was being nice and kind from the beginning. I love friendships in books that actually develop, not just ‘they're friends from childhood, bla bla bla. The twist in the huntsman, and the wolf was just perfect! I loved how it portrays empathy, and how people just judge people from their apearance, or in Red's case because they have magic and are witches. Yeah, forgot to mention. Red is a witch in this version, dope. Also, one important point was how humans are afraid to die and seek immortality, and the side effects of it, pretty important stuff. It was a short and very sweet read. I loved imagining myself in this beautiful and weird forest, also I loved that it isn't heavy on it, and it just comes naturally. I love fantasy books that can do that, not just force magic into it. So yeah, I highly recommend!
Max Einstein is such a fun and clever girl! Our personalities were pretty similar and I am a big science and Albert Einstein fan too!!! The other kids were nice too even though I found their friendship kinda pushed, I dunno why... The benefactor was cool SpoilerI knew he was also a kid! And may I add that he seems neurodivergent to me, so does Max. The book was really pushing the idea of Max being special and that they want to change the world which was nice but kinda pushy... I mean what do the parents think of their kids wandering around by themselves? How can some adults work for kids? Why was The Corp after Max? Why it was never mentioned? Albert Einstein's quotes were cool but Max was being too much, I mean she said “Imagination is better than knowledge” like 15 times!!! And she did have knowledge too... I see the author was trying soo hard to make Max better than the other kids and smarter and more humane, but it was kinda odd... And why was the CMI in Israel? Like any other country in the world was in disposition? Israel is not stable nor that into changing the world for the better (not with the current situation anyways...) Anyways the idea was pretty original and the book was lovely! I would recommend it to sciency, nerdy, and other kids (and adults) who want to change the world for the better!
