Slow start but picked up a lot at the end, will probably read the second book since it ended on such a cliffhanger..
Amazing story as always and it definitly did not end as I thought.
However, once more I was robbed of the idea of more dragons. I know it's not the sole purpose of the book but I felt that they were only present in the first 100-150 pages of the book to then only be mentioned at the very end.
Still a very good story but I was quite disappointed at the lack of dragons.
5/5.
I picked up daughter of the moon goddess of recommendation of the good reads discord, I had thought it would probably not become one of my favorites.
I went in with quite high hopes for this one and oh boy did it not disappoint.
Once again Xingyin is such a strong and well written character, her stubborness, quick thinking and her emotions really stuck to me.
Her feelings and how much she blames herself for the events that happen really resonated with me as well.
Oh dear Wenhzi, how I was so angry at this male character through out the first book but solely I could see the charm with him in this one.
I only started reading books a lot this year but this one will be the very first one that brought me into full crying towards the end, the death of Prince yangming completely shattered me and I think that chapter will forever stay with me.
Finished the book in a day, was quite a pleasant ready.
Grumpy + sunshine trope is one of my favourite so it didn't disappoint on that end.
I think again some of the scenarios in this book felt rushed which brings down the stars for me.
Sweet and short novel to have in between the two massive books.
I really liked it as it's own little insight of what happen after ACOWAR.
I feel that nesta is such a complex character and I can't wait for ACOSF!
Too much emotions, that's all I'm going to say.
Suriel you bastard, you made me cry the most out of everything.
I do not know why but this book did not hit as hard as the others.
I think the groveling from Dom wasn't as impactful and it felt like it was mainly very bad communication which made me almost frustrated.
I did like the little sentimental pieces of the mug for example on the anniversary but the situation overall of the book fell flat.
Rating it lower based on this.
Beautiful.
So happy to see closure of such beloved characters from the duology and the illustrations were so well made!
Like the story and liked the characters but I struggled a lot to get into the first 200 pages of the book, I can't really pinpoint if it was Laura's writing not clicking with me or if the beginning of the book was really hard to get into.
Will still read the second book as I really liked Pae as a main character :)
I do not even know where to start.
I went into this with very little expectations, mainly because both Xavier and Sloane had kind of flew past my head in the previous book but oh I was so wrong.
This is definitely the best one I have read out of all the kings, the slow burn, the traumatic family history, the fear of losing someone, the communication between them.
Not to mention how incredibly rewarding it is to have read all of the twisted series and the kings and read all the familiar names, intertwining into one big thing.
So worth it, I can't wait for next one!
This was very new genre for me as I have very recently drifted more towards fantasy and was very pleasently surprised.
Xingyin is a well written character and I think the whole “love myself more” arc was quite refreshing as many books I have read tend to have female characters that will flung themselves at first love interest.
With this said, the 2 male characters did not “stick” with me as much, I found Wenzhi incredibly difficult to get to know but also his motive towards the end of the book does not feel like the real motive nor what he really wants. Liwei felt much more like a character I would understand but there I also struggled to really understand his reasonings or the way he reacted to Xingyin's decisions.
The ending when she finally got to tell her mom she was no longer imprisoned did bring me tears.
The story was amazing and I was left many times surprised by how scenes turned out as it was very predictable, I think however towards the end that it almost became too many twists which brings down the rating for me.
Over all, incredibly pleased with this book and already looking forward to read the second one!
Enemies to lovers trope went really well for this one.
The bookstore, Jules past and Josh's personality made this my favourite book out of them all!
It was alright but I thought around 80% into the book that the ending got predictable, it was a lot of sexual content which I enjoy but it became very obvious what would happen in the plot early on which was kinda disappointing.
This book was very joyful and the storytelling was really great.
The family bond between Shiori and her brothers were heartwarming.
I did really enjoy the twist at end as I had really thought the stepmother was evil and was the one orchestering everything so was pleasently surprised that I was wrong.
However, dragging down the stars due to that I'm not a big fan of it seemingly almost looking like it will be the classic triangle drama between the swooning boy and jealous dragon boy, it gets old quickly.
This book met the expectations of what I was missing from ACOTAR.
The twists, the nerve wrecking moment at the end of thinking that their mating bond had been snapped actually left me in tears. The fact Feyre became the high lady of the night court at the end just sold me on it all.
5/5 easily.
Amazing storytelling and world building. I had a hard time putting down the book and the only reason for me to drag it down to a 4* is that I struggle to connect with some of the characters but I think I might change the review the more I reflect on the book.
DNF after just a few chapters, story line, the characters, the writing - for some reason I just can't get into it.
Not my favourite out of them. I think Kash one will be more interesting.
I didn't like the ending just because it felt very rushed and back and forth with Ash being in safety and then suddenly being hostage again. It was a good curve ball but just felt a bit “another one.”
Like the spade brothers overall tho :)
