One of the most original Scifi stories I've read in quite awhile. Well, worth reading.
I've read most everything W. E. B. Griffin has written over the years. None of them I would say are great literature. I always view them more as brain candy, something to read and pass the time over the holidays. This one wasn't bad. Like many of his books, it follows a certain formula with bureaucratic backroom fighting mixed in with some bit of arcane history set in the shady world of Black Programs, but enjoyable never the less. I didn't care for the love interest in this book. I found her to be very unbelievable, in general I see her character as a Macguffin, an irrelevant plot mover that took up to much space in this book. I could of dealt without her. This is probably the last of the Presidential Agent Books in that he has drawn to conclusion many of the plot themes of this series of books. If your thinking of reading this, maybe wait for the paperback to come out
Well worth the long wait, since his announcement of this new series several years back. I'm really looking forward to the other books in this new series.
Lawrence has created a great post apocalyptic world, filled with magic and the echoes of science. A pure joy to read.
I found both of the books in this series almost as good as the “Gentleman Bastards” series by Scott Lynch. Very enjoyable books. I hope she revisits these characters at some point.
While I really enjoyed reading this, it is somewhat disappointing to have the story end the way it did. It really felt as if he needed to end this to move on to something else. His idea's in this story are very compelling, but he did a disservice to his readers by the rushed ending.
It was interesting idea, but I felt the story was too one dimensional for my liking. I'll have to give it some thought to see if I want to continue with this series.
I enjoyed the back story that we are finally give on Agent Franks. It placed a whole new dimension to his character.
Their really wasn't much here to sink your teeth into. The mystery with the ballerinas was to short and didn't really explain why it truly need it to involve National Secrets. That macguffin was very clumsily used in this story just to give a brief action sequence. While a number of other historical back stories were the true meat of this book. In the end this didn't feel like a complete book. Everything in it was positioning for the next book. While that can be ok, it could of been done in a short story and not feel like the author was just filling a contractual obligation.
Over all not bad. I look forward to seeing how well this transfers to the big screen. View the trailer here TALLY HO! IT'S THE KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE TRAILER
This was ok, but felt more like a bridging story like his shorter novellas in this series. It just didn't feel fully fleshed out, it seemed more of a series of vignettes strung together to make a larger loose story.
I found it good that he brought the story full circle with Will being the Mentor to a new apprentice. It was a good way to end this series.
I enjoyed this serie's story arc. The ending brought is aspects of the other books that I was not expecting. I'd recommend this series to anyone who enjoys Alternative History stories.
This story feels more of a bridging book. It ended right when it was getting interesting.
While I enjoyed this book, I felt unsatisfied by the ending. It was just left dangling unfinished.
I'm beginning to think that Griffin has passed his peak. His last two books have sucked. Very disappointing.
Don't waste your time on this. Most of it is filled with rehashes of other books and stupid attempts at comedy. WEB Griffin needs to stop churning out books twice a year and concentrate on good stories instead. Serialized books are fine, but don't waste my time with something you obliviously knew was junk!
