Really good retelling will probably check out Cornwells other books at some point. Even though it's a work of fiction it made me think about how crazy the power of superstition and the ravings of a few people must have affected the world back then. Oh and Lancelot can suck it.

This is the first book in the middle series by the author set 1000 years before Herald while Demon takes place 3000 years before Herald. Follows King Ertide as he reckons with having his best days behind him and feelings of not being in control of his empire due to Humans alliance with God and his Angels. Mostly a book of Political Intrigue and a slower paced read. Most Impressed with the world and how releasing 3 separate trilogies at the same time spread out over thousands of years plays with the truth and shapes the future series
Quick read. Can get real dark at times but I enjoyed it. Light on world building just really focused on the POV character Dien but I'm guessing the world gets fleshed out more in the next book and the mainline book of the series.

A great book two. Only knock would be a middle section that kind of felt like filler at the time of reading but the ending really ramped up the pace and wrapped everything up nicely.

Quick change of pace in between bigger books. A classic style whodunit just took me a while to get into the story
Bit of a bummer. What was otherwise a great series the final book didn't quite land for me

Didn't love the train setting this go round but it doesn't take away from the humor and heart of the series. Will be continuing Carl and donuts journey soon

Listened on audio. Just a fun book with good characters and humor. Helped break up some of the darker books I was reading
5/5
Back to the first law. great new characters full of personality as well as some returning characters albeit only popping up here and there. Abercrombies writing is top notch as always
Made it to the end of first law. Too many thoughts to put into words just after reading but this series was great especially the characters. Even though most of the time they made decisions to frustrate me they were so well realized and despite my best efforts I could never guess what was going to happen next
What a Read. Strange to be giving a book 5 Stars to a book as bleak and full of moments that made me pause for a day or two but the characters pierce brown has created had me so invested in their journey/struggle that I can't rate it anything else.
3.5 stars wasn't bad. will continue the series but the first book read to me as all setup for the rest of the series and 700 pages is a lot of setup
Was slumping pretty hard and needed a change of genre and this book did the trick. A whodunit that's also a time loop story with another twist I won't spoil.
Been wanting to start another urban fantasy series to sprinkle in between the more epic and heavy series I tend to read and this was a fun read. Liked the setting of London and the main character Alex verus a mage except not a typical one he is instead a diviner someone who can look into the future and his unique skills make him useful to people both good and bad.
