Think this is end of line for me. I remember getting to book 8 or so ten years ago. Now this just doesn't appeal to me anymore. Too much sarcasm and not enough character growth. And the insta love with Reyes doesn't work for me. Also he's kind of an a**.
Was expecting more romance. Mostly historical fantasy and I'm just not feeling historical fiction currently. Maybe pick up at another time.
Hallmark movie in book form. Didn't really like fmc or the whole have a boyfriend(who isn't the right fit) and find another guy who is the greatest. Just personal taste.
Just not feeling it right now. Too many villians and Nash is a little too overprotective for my tastes.
It's what I needed right now in my reading slump. I'll say that there is a lot of missed moments of getting to show readers how they feel about each other. Lots of telling. And issues swept under the rug miraculously. But it was slow burn, which is my favorite.
Great premise. Loved the magical school. Felt too ya. And I didn't like the heroine. I gave up when she freaks out that she charged more on her cc than what is in her bank account. Its called minimum payments and don't go do something stupid and sketchy for money. Her bargainer series is good though. Maybe give it another chance later in audiobook.
Kept reading because i was doing a readathon. I was excited for this one. Mid thirties heroine with a daughter. Second chance romance. Being in my midthirties with 2 kids, I was looking forward to relating to the heroine. But no... this felt like a ya novel. Characters were very immature. And oh boy did this book drag.
Going to dnf for now. Main character is annoying and I wanted more cold badass assassin and not ragey teenager assassin with giant questionmark.
Henley is annoying and rude... also another negative is things like gender is a social construct. Okay, well your political views are showing author. But nail in coffin is heroine. If you don't like one of the leads in a romance, not much worth reading unless you're hate reading.
Too many coincidences of being in neighbors apartment when nazis came and then the boarding house they chose is owned by lady who part of resistant. Eva being able to do a decent forgery without practice or making a mistake. The mother is annoying... instead of caring about her duaghter and the situation she is in, she makes a scene on the street and wants to stay in Paris as fugitives. Just wasn't hitting the believability factor for me which I prefer in my historical fiction.
Idk, young adult isn't much my thing. While I like the mystery aspects and ghosts. I did not like the characters at all. Or the romances building up...
It was okay until the drag queen hour for parents and little kids....nope. sorry, not sorry. This new normal of trying to teach little kids about sexuality and gender needs to go.
Didn't like the characters or storyline. Not scary. And then adding a small fleck of politics in there was just a pass for me.
I like the history but the actual story was tedious. Insta love is not my thing and felt I'd be better served reading a non fiction about Shanghai in this time period. Plus I rather read a book about not so good looking ppl using their smarts to survive then beautiful ppl using their beauty/smarts to survive. Ymmv but I always cringe when main characters go on about their own beauty.
It was like a big advertisement for her show. If you had a shot for everytime she said kindred spirits, you'd be in the hospital or dead. while not outright talking shit on opposing show ghost adventures, she did make some negative comments about the use of hand held tape recorders. I did watch one episode of her show and found it boring. Didn't know who she was previous to this book. Was hoping for a lot more ghost stories. Anyways not for me as I don't like reading self promotion 🙃
“Eight thousand nerves in the clitoris and still not as sensitive as a white man not getting his way” nope, and nope. Tired of race being brought into everything. Not reading this author again.
I didn't find the characters likeable at all. While I find the history interesting, the characters attitudes annoyed me to no end.
Instantly knew the authors views. Was not enjoyable. And, as a woman, I do not live in fear. I have a healthy dose of caution for certain areas or situations but I don't live my life in fear thinking someone going to do something bad to me. 😕
Too much focus on needing to potty train by 3. With some fear mongering about kindergarten kids not being potty trained. My son potty trained a little after 3.5 years old. He has a speech delay but he really just understood at 3.5. No fights, no issues. He is fully potty trained and has had no accidents beyond the first few weeks. Wait until you child is ready, it'll save you a lot of stress and battles.
It was hard to swallow that government has some test to pick ppl to insert all the government secrets in their head. Knowing how the government works, it takes forever to do anything buried in procedures and for this....you'd be slammed into top secret and pretty much jailed away. So I didn't buy the premise which made my enjoyment less.
Wanted to learn about the victims but just did not like writing style. Also claiming they were not prostitutes when they were lost me. Yes there is always more but I don't view prostitution as the big bad. Women did it to survive. There wasn't many options. So trying to force a narrative that they weren't prostitutes did not sit well. I think I'll find another book about Jack the ripper and his victims that isn't trying to force down an authors views and give more facts
Spy books apparently are not my thing. I also don't like celebrities in books. So...this did not work for me and felt it was slightly confusing how we were thrown in.
Knew who the killer was early on. Was hard to suspend belief. just couldn't believe any decent parents would hide their sons killings and take his place. Or that he didn't kill for 20 years after that. also successful psychiatrist is a bill popper and alcoholic. Just hard to believe any of this and therefore could not get into the story.
