I was really excited read the Scarlet Alchemist so when I saw in B&N on sale I decided to grab it.
Review on the stars:
I really liked the beginning portion of the book (I would give it 3 stars). Although for the middle and ending portion I would give it a 1.1 or 2.
Overall feeling after finishing the book:
I'm really disappointed with the Scarlet Alchemist I really thought we would see more of her powers in Alchemy but in reality it was only in the beginning of the book. The plot feels very out of place, you could easily figure out what was going to happen next and the ending was really disappointing. ... As well the relationship Zilan with Hong felt too fast since the readers didn't really get to see much of them spending a lot of time together and seeing them catching feelings with each other. By the way, why did the author had to kill every character? I understand Moon's death since Zilan trusted her a lot and looked up to her but everyone else??? As well why would you feel okay giving your two siblings the body of the prince and the empress?? I feel like Zilan wouldn't have felt comfortable seeing Wenshu and Yufei as the prince and empress. Literally the empress was trying to kill them and the prince and Zilan have feeling towards each other so just thinking about it feels so weird.
Sadly, I won't be reading Kylie Lee Baker's second book of the Scarlet Alchemist because I just feel like it will follow the same pattern not to mention how
-Spoiler free review-
I feel like this book qualifies for a cozy fantasy book. We get to see the growth of characters, their ambition and unique friendship along the way. The main character will experience unexpected friendship, some hardships, untold secrets and so much more.
I personally recommend this book to everyone. You won't regret it.
It was so good at the beginning then it sort of started to go south.
(I don't want to spoil it all for those who want to read it so I will say it very vague )
I wish Mason and Willow started off as friends instead of being like those cliche romance books where the main characters see each other for the first time and they fall in love thinking it's true love.
I really loved how Willow was learning about her mom's past and the witches parts)
As well I loved Mason and learning about his past and his hobby.
Soon as they see each other, it seemed like they “found true love” and felt extremely rushed (especially how they met for the first time)
Maybe it could have been better if they moved the feelings of both of them to book two. (I would have enjoyed it more)
I highly recommend everyone to read this book as well as the series. After reading each story, you will get to view life in a new way. I absolutely love reading each story and it will help you cherish life and the people around you.
How you should read the series:
Most people liked to read from Book 1, book 2, book 3 and book 4. However, if you see that the place you buy your books or library doesn't have the book you are on it won't affect you dramatically from the plot since each chapter is a story from someone who went to the cafe to time travel to the past or future. Although if you read it out of order you will also have a worthwhile experience.
I will try to keep it vague and not spoil anything BIG.
I was pretty surprised that I really liked this book. I loved how the author didn't make half of the book just about romance and kept the interesting story going. This is something I have been noticing with YA books, which is a pity since the plot gets so interesting, and they just disregard it and go with the path of romance...So I'm really glad the author (Susan Dennard) decided to continue the plot. Yes, there are some hints of someone liking someone, but it's verrrrrry light compared to other YA books.
I also wanted to mention that the author did an AMAZING job making the reader feel how the main character was feeling and what Winnie was thinking at that moment when faced with danger. Throughout the book, you will see Winnie get more confident about herself and learn more things about herself. She truly is amazing.
For those who are curious:
Winnie and her family are paying the price of her father's actions by being the outcasts in their society. Losing her friends, their clan's respect, and surviving off of two jobs her mother works. Wennie decided it was her turn to help change her family's fate. While trying to regain their reputation back as a Wednesday (tribe name), she will have to do this trial that may or may not kill her in hopes of having her family and her life back together. While doing the trial, she will discover hidden secrets and realizations and reconnect previous and new friendships. Will she be able to survive all three trials? Will she learn more about her dad and what he did? Who can she trust?
My rating: 3.4 / 5
What happened:
Maren's best friend has gone missing so it's up to her to find her. After getting a few hints from one of her classmates, her memories of her friend mentioning key words she realizes that there is a secret society at the school she is in which might be the reason why her best friend has gone missing. After trying her luck with one of the games she gets an invite to the secret society. Later on, she realizes, there is more to the story. Her life and others are at risk by participating in the gamemaster's game.
I thought this book was interesting in the first half / mid-section of the book. The plot was interesting and I was worried about the main character and others. I couldn't close the book because I wanted to know what would happen and learn more about the secret society. Although everything changes near the middle to end of the book...it felt rushed. This book also has a few small similarities with The Hunger Games.
What I wished happened:
I wished there was more connection between the main character and her potential love interest. The relationships felt rushed and due to the situations she was in I would have felt she wouldn't have wanted to be in a love triangle...she has a mission to save her best friend. It also would have been better if we got more of a backstory about the main character and others. As well, why does she care so much about Poppy?
Near the end, we get to see who is the game master which felt really out of tune. I thought it would have been someone older like one of the teachers, the headmaster of the school, or someone higher up...not one of her potential love interests. We don't really know what else happened to society toward the end of the book. We only know that it was shut down and some of the member's names got leaked. We don't know if there's going to be revenge since a lot of people depended on the secret society and loved the power behind it... or if someone new will take place while rebuilding the secret society undercover.
I felt like the author had the right idea but rushed it towards the middle/end of the book. It would have been really interesting to see the point of view of each character, their mental health, the situation everyone is feeling, more risks and thrills with better explanations. As well maybe just remove the relationship/love triangle.
I absolutely adore this book!!
The author Axie Oh did an amazing job of transporting the reader to a mythical world similar to Studio Ghibli and a Korean folktale called The Tale of Shim Cheong while giving her own twist to the story.
If you want a book that will be hard to put down, send you different emotions, and overall want to read the story over and over again. I highly recommend you to read this book!!
By the way, there is some romance but it's very subtle.
I found it pretty sweet how his mom is trying to do her best to support her older son's feelings and interests. The mom is learning more about her son's feelings and seeing him slowly getting comfortable talking about his crush in front of her and her other son makes her feel really happy.
There are also moments where her younger son covers for his older brother which I found pretty sweet of him. By doing so he was able to make his older brother more comfortable when his dad almost picked the pieces that his older brother was gay. Even though the dad is sort of in denial/ hasn't paid that much attention to his older son he made some remarks in which the mom tried to guide her husband without telling him that her older son could be gay by giving some comments like maybe you should give it a try watching the drama of the relationship between two men.
Overall, I really liked volume one of “I Think Our Son Is Gay”
This is a cozy and sweet book that mentions a young witch named Kiki and her right of passage. Once she turns thirteen, she will begin her training to become a good witch with her trusty companion. Going to a place her mom warned her about, trying to adapt to a new place with new potential friends, sharing what she knows best and just never giving up when there's a challenge.
I really love Kiki's Delivery Service and I wished there were more books. I'm really curious about what will happen next to Kiki while also being proud of Kiki and how she problem-solves. I absolutely love how Kiki and Jiji (her wise black cat companion) as well as the other characters who played a big part in Kiki's life.
Reading Kiki's Delivery Service made me really excited to also watch Studio Ghibli's take on Kiki's Delivery Service. I highly recommend this book.
This review doesn't contain spoilers:
I absolutely love this book. This book is pretty cozy, and it doesn't really involve adventure and high stakes. If you are here for something comfortable like a cafe shop that could magically transport you back in time then this book is for you. But you have to remember that there are a few rules you need to follow OR ELSE something can happen to you.
Each character you meet, you will learn more about them when the story progress. Some character backstories will make you weep a bit but every character is so memorable and lovable.
I just really love how the author wrote Before the Coffee Gets Cold. It's truly a wonderful book and I highly recommend this book to everyone.
I absolutely loved the first book from the The School for Good and Evil series. Once you start reading, it's hard to stop. The author did an amazing job transporting you to the fictional world and being able to make you feel as if you were one of the main characters. You felt the struggles, the emotional tolls, and other emotions as well . (I was truly hooked...I couldn't stop reading until I was finished the book)
I truly love one of the main characters in the story called Agatha. Even though she is misunderstood, through out the story you get to see Agatha's true personality shine. Which reminds me of the saying, don't judge a book by it's cover.
Although, I found it really interesting seeing the friendship between two opposite best friends. One being obsessed with dresses, skincare, makeup, PRINCE. Meanwhile the other, uses her smarts, doesn't really care about all the girly things girls like and just wants to be with her mother and her hairless cat named Reaper, while also just wanting to live a normal life without the interference of the storybook. Yet both girls, without realizing at the beginning they actually care a lot about each other's safety and happiness and are like to two peas in a pod.
After finishing Demon Slayers, I was looking for more manga books that captured my interest. After searching around, I saw one-punch man and decided to read book one. So far, I am really hooked to the story.
You will get to know more about Saitama (one-punch man) and learn about his past before he trained and how he became bald. There is some comedy throughout the manga which I really loved.
I highly recommend everyone to read this manga.
You will get to know more about Saitama (one-punch man) and his secret to how he became so strong, a new potential villain, new characters and so much more. I really love how Saitama is and how his student is learning from him (the 20 words or less to summarize the backstory because Saitama didn't have time to listen.)
I also really love the funny scenes as well throughout the manga.
I highly recommend everyone to read Volume two of One-Punch Man.
Just letting you know: I won't go into detail with my summary since I don't want to spoil it for new readers curious about this book. I've actually been postponing reading this book for a while now since I was worried It wasn't going to live up to my expectations. After reading a few pages I was hooked, and I was able to finish this book in a day. So let's just say I really enjoyed reading this book and I will be reading the second book in the series soon.
The rating I would give this book: 5/5
Throughout your journey reading this book, you will get to know about the main character Percy Jackson, and the special world he lives in. With so many twists and turns, you will experience the quest with Percy Jackson and his friends and learn more about Percy's true self.
This isn't your typical manga, of villains and heroes. Throughout the manga, we get to see what Mr. Villan (who is one of the antagonists in the book) does. When he isn't on his day off, we get to see a new side of him. He is ruthless as many villains are and wants world destruction although he has one goal in mind. SAVE THE PANDAS.
I truly love how Yuu Morikawa created Mr. Villan and his love for Pandas. I really feel like he is slowly liking humans by some of the interactions he has been in. As well, I absolutely love seeing what Mr. Villan does on his day off.
I DEFINITELY recommend you to read Mr. Villain's Day Off. You won't regret it.

Let me just tell you that Vol. 10 made me so emotional learning about what Loid has gone through during his childhood and how he became a spy. We clearly see his growth development from the events that happened in his childhood/ teenage years to the start of his spy career.
