This has been such a good magazine over the years. I started reading back in the 80's on the farm.
After slowing down in the middle, the last quarter really set out some interesting new story lines. Very much looking forward to digging into Book 2 of this series.
2nd book of a trilogy. Takes a different approach from book 1 in that it is more of an outside-in look, but I liked the perspective. Good hard scifi, loved it. Book 3 up next!
There is potential in the story but it's a lot like other books in this genre. I may give Volume 2 a shot at some point, see where the story goes if it shows up on Kindle Unlimited like this first volume did.
Not as good as the first book in this series but it ended on an intriguing note, one that will bring me back for book 3 at some point.
One of my favorite types of story, akin to the Coyote novel series. Very short but a well told story.
Meh, it was alright, even laugh out loud funny at times, but it's fairly short and never achieved that epic feel that many sci-fi books manage to find. This is a forced pander for LOLs, not space opera. Enjoy it for what it is, but then by all means read some Evan Currie.
Getting interested to know more about this setting, how the world got into this state. On to book 3!
Another interesting chapter in this book series, here we learn more about the nature of the Outsiders and the city-dwellers. Interesting, would love to read a full-length novel based on the broader back story of this universe. On to book #4!
I'd not read a “steam punk” novel before but I'm glad I finally took the plunge. Great book, fresh world building and story line, unlike anything I've read before. Looking forward to Book 2 “Lifemaker” in this 5 book series.
Great story, I'd like to live in that universe. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
Interesting following the story of what the amulets can do, but the violence is over-the-top and often feels like filler.
Definitely over the top but the story was compelling, kept you interested to the end.
Decent hard scifi adventure with plenty of characters, plot twists and political machinations. Well written as well though the setting is unlike anything many readers will have encountered before. I think a bit more exposition like that in Ringworld, an exhaustive description of the environment, would enhance this story greatly.
It's been a long time since I read a book outside my go-to genre of SF&F. I had a recommendation to try this particular cozy-mystery and, although it took me a while to engage the story, it was a fun and interesting read. Definitely not my last cozy!
Interesting book about the future of work in the era of AI and ML. It's a thought provoking overview of what you need to be thinking about in the future of work. Lots of follow-up suggestions if you want to dive deeper.
Humorous, interesting and decent. Murder!
I'm still relatively new to the Cozy Mystery scene - this was my 2nd read in the genre. Good cast of characters, liked the occasional humor and the fact that our detectives took a time-out with God on a daily basis. People forget to do that these days, yet it remains as important as ever. I very much appreciated how the author tied everything together for us at the end. Lt. Cy Dekker is one smart detective.
Interesting and fresh story, and very entertaining. The author definitely has a way with words, so good.
Started out really interesting, with a focus on game mechanics balanced with an interesting story and a hella compelling premise. About halfway through it forgot it is a LitRPG novel and became a run-of-the-mill fantasy story, disappointed.
Fantastic and fun story, neat new twist on the Arthurian legend... as it meets space opera!
Very interesting capture-the-flag type story, with an incredibly broad cast of characters. It was hard to keep track of them all, though the heart of the story does not require you remember every edge character introduced. Great read.
