Some of this is my fault, I should have gone back and refreshed myself on Dresden before I read this. I should have re-read the last book.
The book jumps right in to the story and gets going. The little jokes and “human” feeling to Dresden is present and really why I love his books. One thing that was rough is that it does have conclusion, but the relief comes when you realize the next book is already coming! It's another turn in the Dresden universe and I am excited to see where it goes
Tough one here. The book is broken up into smaller subplots, unlike his other books. This style is not my favorite as there are smaller buildups to the finallies. The being said I think it contains the best fight scene of any of his books... And easily the best last line of a book!
I think the best yet. Fast and fun with some good twists. All the orphan books have been great without being the same. Great reads.
Rollins is as good as ever. Would have been another 4 star sigma book but the last 25 pages... whoa! On to the next book!
Good beginning and a really good ending. The middle was a little slow and I thought the end was kinda rushed, but I enjoyed it enough to continue the series!
A lot of the jokes were overdone and the plot line was thin. Very thin. There were some parts that were fun, and others (when talking about food) that were not. I often was reading and asking myself what the characters were trying to accomplish. Where are they going and why. It was as if when writing the book an idea came up for a joke so the story twisted to fit that in, instead of fitting jokes into the story.
So this is my second Sanderson series (Mistborn was first). He weaves and dances around and really make the reader engaged. This one is, not watered down, but less. Its also YA so it should be! It is an easy read, not complicated twists, but they are still there. Yet again another novel take on a genre as well! My review of 5 stars is for what it is, a great YA book and not a comparison to his other “adult” works. Great YA book and a great way to “test the waters” of Sanderson.
While the story is not all that exciting it seems to draw you in. I care about the characters. I need to find out what happens. This is not the typical style of writing I prefer but in this book it worked. It is well written with good characters. While there are slow parts in the book there is not a moment that does not have a purpose in the story, no wasted text just for the sake of making the book longer. Its a goodread :)
For me, its not the plot or the subject matter. Its the action! If you dont get caught up in the “facts” in this book (it is fiction) and enjoy it then its a great read! Fast, lots of action and a real page turner.
I actually liked it better then De Vinci Code. If you liked it then read this as well! Fast pace with lots of action.
James seems to be polishing along the way and so far each book is better then the last. Not significantly better, but each is a step. You can see the series growing. On to the next.
It was odd. This was his first book I was a little let down by. Still good and enjoyable, maybe the ending. It just did not grip me like his last few. Maybe Rollins bar is getting set to high :) On to the next!
Really surprising book. It may not get a lot of headlines vs Sanderson s other books, but should. One of his best.
Love the world! So diffrent then other fantasy books, the writing is good. It's hard to explain, I dont think it's great writing but its, what, comforting and easy. Like a blanket it wraps around you easy and sucks you in. Wait maybe that is what makes it great. It's great but does not try. The story and world are also awsome and unique. Now on to the second book. Well worth it I recommend it.
While I loved this book, it was not as good as either De Vinci or Angels and Demons. The pace was great and it made me think, but there seemed to be more unneeded plot twists then in the previous books. Dont get me wrong, I loved it and will read his next without doubt.. I just think Brown set the bar very high with his last 2 books.
Fun series and I enjoyed them all. I thought this was yet another great book, though I think the final “battle” was a little to quick and “easy”. In true Sanderson fashion there are a few twists at the end, easier then his other books as this is YA but fun! Fun world and a fun series. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a lighter easy read, or YA!
Continuation of a good series. Again as a young adult book this is perfect. Not overly complicated but a quick and fun read in a unique world. Still has surprises and keeps you interested, unlike, in my opinion, other YA books. To me a good series is when I finish a book and need to read the next to find out what happens!
Not as good as the first, which I thought was excellent. A lot of the book was about the characters worthiness, a bit to much of it. There was a ton of back and forth, am I good enough or not. Past that it was, again, a great read and good story. If you liked the first there is no reason not to continue the series and I myself am off to book 3. Enjoy!
What an ending... or last book of the series! Many books jump to answers and the reader is at a loss for an explanation, not here. All the clues were right in front of my face the entire time. You can tell this book was planned out. Things that happened in the first chapters of the first book make so much impact and are wrapped up unlike any other series I have read. It ends not as expected, or as I expected, but was brilliant. Really would like to know how Sanderson did this! No question about it, I will read his other series.
